The Weather Channel......

Post by fortyshooter » Sat Aug 08, 2020 7:11 pm

Anybody still watch it on cable or sat. TV ? Used to have your local weather and radar on the 8 minute mark before and after the hour which
was helpful when storms might be approaching.
Now that's mostly gone except for a rare occasion only weather drama shows on there now...totally useless!
Even the digital split channel for one of our local stations doesn't show live radar but now morning news rerun. That channel was for the local weather.

Like when we might be eating dinner and don't have a smart phone handy it was helpful to just change the channel and take a look if we heard
weather moving in and local news wasn't on yet.

Should be a requirement to have at least one channel out of 200 that has continuous weather data and radar!

we use their website on our computers and my wife likes to look at it on TV the first thing each morning .... over the years, their Hurricane predictions have really improved .... lately that hasn't been the case with predicting thunderstorms

I look at the NOAA weather site on my computer or phone for local forecasts. The Weather channel is about like the Travel Channel that now is 90% haunted house stuff and the History Channel which is now mostly reality tv shows that don't really have much to do with history. I do enjoy watching American Pickers.

Nope, don't worry bout the weather. It is what it is. In fact, I got tired of Dish Direct TV and cable after trying them all and paying the high price each month to see the same thing over and over. I discovered a good antenna and haven't looked back. I get all the western channels and shows I want, Gunsmoke, Wanted Dead or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, Rawhide and more, much more. Even get my Star Trek fix whenever I want. I live in Ohio, weather here can change every ten minutes or so anyhow and being I am just south of Lake Erie, we get a lot of crappy weather. The wife used to watch the weather channel a lot but when they did away with the local weather, I switched the channel on her. I think she would love to be a storm chaser.

Well I like to look at the radar and pull it up on the computer when storms are out and about. If rain is in the forecast around dog walking
time I pull it up took look for potential breaks in the rain. It is a handy tool.

This one right here. Got it at Radio Shack. I put one out in the little log cabin by my pond and liked it so well.I got one for the house and cancelled Direct TV. Sometimes I get as high as 70 some channels with it, anything 50 and above is norm. It paid for itself in a few short month, now I watch all the television I want..FREE.

We keep a battery powered weather radio that I got from Radio Shack year's ago. Don't use it much but it does come in handy when there's a hurricane or bad weather and the cable goes out. I used to carry it to the hunting cabin as well since we didn't have any electric out there. It was my only way of keeping up with the weather on a daily or even weekly basis.

See here's another case.... Was planning to get my smoker going for a quick smoke of chicken breast. So around 4:30 PM I pull up the weather radar
on computer and see a storm cluster line forming about 30 miles SW heading this way. Had I got the smoker going it would have been right in middle of a downpour and another cuss fest. So sure enough just 15 minutes ago here it came!
