Sometimes you get lucky. You just have a camera and the pics just happen.

We had a wicked thunderstorm last night, with high winds. After the storm, Miss Tina called me outside to see the GREAT rainbow. I grabbed the good camera and headed out, just as it turned into a Double Rainbow. I shot about 100 digital pics, hoping for something good enough to become my desktop background. Just as I was about to stop shooting, I was rewarded for my patience with a bonus.... I have my new desktop, and I thought I would share it. You don't have to paint the pictures, just have a camera handy when HE does it for you.

It happened years ago in VA at the old farm, and I was lucky enough to run inside and grab the camera and capture that too..... I shared it here then as well..... but for those who weren't members, a guest appearance ....

I love the fact that if you look around, you can find the beauty around you every day. It's another reason we love kayak fishing.... Always photo ops there too.

That Lightning/Rainbow photo is extraordinary, Marine; especially because it was photographed using a still camera and it's not a frame from a video. A Perfect Storm... in the right place at the right time with your camera at the ready. Cool.

Interesting how that lightening bolt makes that sharp turn at the rainbow!

I don't have any pics to compare with those, but did find a bit scary weather related record today. I bought a weather station, a few weeks ago. It records highs & lows for temps, wind speed, etc. Happened to think to check the high wind speed today during a storm that had 35 mph wind. The record ( so far ), was 73 mph.
That was what took down the big tree size limbs week or so ago. 73 is on the low end of F1.

Man that turtle looks pooped.

If you know turtles, he's also not to be trifled with. Those big boys are irritable. I had one I didn't see bite a rattletrap lure in half when it waddled past him in the shallows. It "irritated" him. Snap! No more irritation.

We have a community pond that in the evening people walk over to an area that is a good place to feed turtles. The turtles line up to be fed turtle pellets. Talk about a herd of turtles. Every thing is good until the big guy shows up. A Snapper with a neck about 5 inches long and thick tail, His or her shell is about 24 inches is diameter, all scared up from past battles I presume. A fearsome beast that, according to local legend, has been ruling the pond since prehistoric times. All the other turtles give it lots of room.

Sounds kinda cool...( feeding the turtles ).
I know from experience, those older, big ones can come with a terrible odor though. At least the big one I once encountered did.

Tina hooked a huge snapper when bottom fishing with a worm rig, and most folks would have cut the line, letting the hook stay and rust away. When we landed at the boat ramp, the Game Warden was checking licenses, and after verifying valid permits asked how the day went. I told him the Ms. had hooked the snapper.

"Cut the line?" He said sadly... Shaking his head.

"Nope, freed him."

He perked up at that, and I explained that we had pinned him between the kayaks, and I had used long needle nose pliers to grab the hook and lift lightly and twist, but kept my hand and fingers away from the finger trap of a mouth. One smooth motion... Gone.

He was a happy snapper,
And we had a smiling game warden.

Used to have a neighbor who collected snappers in a stock tank all summer and in the fall had a turtle feed. He cooked it several different ways including turtle soup, deep fried turtle, roasted turtle, ect. Might smell bad but it tastes pretty good.
