Cool story, looks like a Marlin M60 to me.....

Bandit would have cut that rope in one shot! And, as they say, you can take that to the bank! Great story.

Great stuff. We had a whole bunch of Bald Eagles dying or being killed on the eastern shore here. Never heard the follow up on why.

I usually see a couple of them in the area we fish.

OK, got to talk this through.
150 shots seems a bit much, even with the wind. An eagle would have some weight to it, and kept the string quite taut. Still, I don't know the distance of the shot. The string wrapped on the eagle's leg could have been very short, and as the military vet said, he didn't want to hurt the eagle. So making sure not to hit/injure the eagle, 150 rounds would be a trifle. Great rescue.

I guess it never hurts to practice in the wind like I do so often....you never know when you might have to channel your inner Annie Oakley.

I couldn't see a tubular magazine. My vote is a Ruger 10/22.

150 rounds seems a little excessive. Still, can't argue with results. That, and we don't know the distance. Depending on how big the rope was, it may well have taken quite a few hits to sever the rope. A couple .223s from my Savage varmint rifle would have parted the branch easily. Heck one good shot might have done it. Still, the .22 may have been all available, or may have had too long legs depending on backdrop.

BTW the reporter said he was shooting the branch, not the rope so yeah, a bigger gun would have helped.

I've always loved Barbara Stanwick's portrayal of this remarkable girl; but like many of us, I first came to know her name and reputation as a character on a Saturday morning TV western. There was almost nothing as good as Saturday morning Black and White TV when I was growing up.

She was an uncommon woman, who's shooting skill as a child supported her family through some very rough time.

Looking at the picture, I would have to say shooting the branch would be the smart way to proceed.

The poor bird must have thought he was being shot at by Stevie Wonder.............

From what I read he had to shoot out a bunch of other branches to clear the way for a shot at the rope branch. = 150 shots.
