I have a couple of 5 yo blueberry bushes in my backyard out here in the woods. I also have a variety of wildlife in those same woods. Plus birds of course. They all seem to love my blueberries, since as soon as they get ripe enough to pick they disappear. Spotted a little bandit ('coon) in one of the bushes a couple days ago during daylight hours, so grabbed my old gill gun and made a 30 yd shot while he was pigging out, but not a DRT shot since he managed to get out of the bush and sprint for the tree line before I could make a second shot.

And what the 'coons and squirrels don't get the birds do. I'm about ready to give up on getting any berries this year.

I would be surprised if the bears didn't get some of them.
Also, any coon out during daylight hours, is not a good thing. Probably should have put him down because of potential rabies.

Don't have bears around here, buy yeah you're right about the rabies possibility. I trapped a half dozen last year, so looks like I'll have to set the traps again. Might go into the coonskin hats biz to get some revenge & compensate for the berries.

Friend of mine has blueberries and strawberries. He has had to put netting over his to keep the birds out but it doesn't keep out the four legged bandits.

The critters have the edge of early morning or late night picking over us humans!

Hey Mark, not many bears down this way.
Probably even less the farther south you go from here.

They left our Blueberries alone for the most part, but we could never get any Cherries off of the Cherry tree. They would be just about ready to pick and the next day the tree would be bare. I believe it was the crows that got them. Except for one year strangely. We got the best crop ever and the crows left them alone, and soon after the tree died.

Anyone have an explanation on that one?

Probably even less the farther south you go from here.

Probably not Randy...if you're talking South Carolina, ( where I think you currently are ).
Maybe not many where you live either, however, Ya get in to those Tennessee mountains, it's a different story.

A friend of mine saw a bear early this morning from his back porch. He said it stood up on it's hind legs and stood what looked like 8 Ft tall. He lives 1 1/2 miles from me.

Mark, I know very little about this part of SC.
But yes the mountains between here and home do have a number of them.
None anywhere near my home, we have a few Big cats, but no Bears
