Chi-town chaos.

Post by Dahliathemeh » Sun May 31, 2020 3:33 pm

As you all know the George Floyd riots have spilled all over the United States. We are pretty hard hit here in Chicago. Last night despite the mayor calling for a curfew, there were people out looting in downtown Chicago and setting fires.
As a result transportation has all but ceased to go to the downtown area. Now the people who are " protesting" are on the South side not far from here looting during the daytime. The other thing that has happened is they raised all the bridges in order to protect people in downtown.
people who have been working hard to try to make Wednesday's opening date have been told by higher-ups in the company they need to go home due to the violence in the streets.
downtown has been blocked off, that leaves the other neighborhoods on the outskirts going towards downtown pretty much open and fair game.
Looters have been working their way towards my neighborhood now since this morning, hopefully they won't make it.
The Illinois national guard will be in the city tonight, I hope everything calms down.
I never take myself seriously....

Good luck. It's going to get worse. Hard to miss the news about this, so I won't say anything more.

This has gone well beyond the murder...which was horrible. Would get political if I voiced myself any more.
Please , just stay safe and protect yourself and your loved ones. I have a few friends in your neighborhood.

I thank God for the timing, Mike has the week off. Our jobs were supposed start tomorrow, but that has been delayed until Friday.
Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. It's getting scary around us. Local gangs are chasing looters away from little village which is about a mile or so from us. People with small businesses are out with ARs protecting their livelihood.
They have gotten as close as 47th and Halsted, which is about 3-5 miles east from us. We are on 38th and California, so it's getting close to us from all around.
I hope it ends soon!

Be very careful who you support to save your bacon. There will be an EO coming out soon, possibly today, declaring one or more organizations as Domestic Terrorists. This will invoke USC Title 18, Chpt 113B. I suggest that you and everyone else here take a look at it and act accordingly. You don't want to accidentally get scooped up in that.

For you younger folks on the Forum, this isn't anything new. Back in the late sixties and early seventies we had this civil unrest all throughout the country. It went on for a pretty long time and the rioters basically burned out the localities they lived in, which were not rebuilt for a very long time.

It ended when the people got really fed up and demanded action. That action was in the form of two Airborne Divisions being deployed around the country with orders to end it. They did! I read yesterday that the Airborne have been put on alert.

I can tell you this from experience. I worked at the Baltimore airport weather station in late 67 and 68. I lived north of Baltimore and one day I was driving home through Baltimore and was interspersed with mile of jeeps and trucks full of Airborne troopers on their way into town. They camped in the city parks and the fun began.

Then in 69 and 70 they were burning DC down and as a Air Traffic Controller I helped bring hundreds of C-130s into Andrews Air Force Base. Then one morning they opened the gates and turned them loose. Riots over.

At the same time they were also deployed to Watts in LA. Riots over.

Rough way to deal with things, but if that's what it's going to take, Let's Roll!

@GunnyGene: Believe me when I say that I don't support the local gangs at all! This moment of them being protectors is just that, a moment. They will go back to terrorizing the people in Little Village when its all over.
Me and the better half have each other to save our own butts.
In other news, Lincoln park was broken into and animals have been stolen. Just not sure which ones yet, Wicker park is being hit now.

Oh, I do believe you. But you may not know who is on the other side, but not affiliated with a local gang. There's more to all this than just local warlords.

We had a small protest march down the blvd. of our small city yesterday and it was peaceful.

Late last night and getting ready for bed I notice taillights of a car, headlights out and just parked on the side street of my lot.
A wooded area and my backyard right there I had my bedroom window open and was taking notice.
Went out the back door and off the deck with my Streamlight flashlight and carrying my .45 Put the beam on him from around a tree and he sped off.

I've heard of groups may be targeting neighborhoods and checked it out. 5000 lumen security lights going up next on that side!

Ruger Mini 14 sits in the bedroom with full mag/bolt open along with my 12 ga. 18 inch Remington pump 7 shots and the 20 ga. Shockwave and my carry XDE. 45 ACP. Plenty more options in my armory room next door down!
