Long time neighbor passed away.....

When we moved into our neighborhood 36 yrs. ago I knew this guy was something special as he was known as the mayor of the subdivision.
Anything thing going on and he would be in the middle of it! In his 50's then and living 5 houses down from me his garage/patio area was THE hangout
with a few other guys if you wanted to talk about the goings on over several cold beers. The "fridge" was ALWAYS full and we would takes turns trying to keep it stocked up.
I could write a nice humorus book on all his adventures which would always have another one of the group sucked up into it whether you wanted to or not. Learned the real art of the "deal" whether it was buying a plant for his yard or buying a lawn mower or car which was a rowdy expierence!
A helpful neighbor but sometimes not the way you wanted it..when a new fellow and his wife moved next door to him things really got to be fun!
So at the age of 89 he passed on after a sudden heart attack last weekend and my ol' neighborhood will never be the same.

My sympathies, Forty. It seems the "mayor" lived a good, long life; died quickly; and will be missed. It doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks for the condolences. He was taken to the hospital early that morning by rescue. He lived by himself, his wife had passed several years ago.
They put in 2 stints and another procedure but after a week never really regained heart strength.
One story and I think he was 79 at the time...he borrowed my small electric chainsaw and wanted to trim some limbs out near the top....yes the top!
He crawled up the tree and when almost there he slipped and fell to the ground. First thing he did after making sure his legs and arms still worked
he stood up and looked around to see if anyone had seen the incident!
He was laid up for several weeks on his couch with a pinched nerve in his hip area not to mention bruised up.
One tough old guy!! My saw suffered a cracked handle but still works and still have it!

Sorry for the loss there Forty. We dont have one of those here in my neighborhood. We have a female of the opposite type who has made her mark in the opposite direction.

Yup, we had the "one guy" in our old neighborhood who had a finger (nose?) in everything... but not in a good way.

He was the guy who always knew just a bit more about "it" than you, no matter what "it" was, even if it was your full time job.
His son finally moved him 1,000 miles away and the neighborhood threw him a going away block party. The weekend after he left.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have known several people like your friend over the years, and they are rare. A phone call away and ready to help, never seeking or accepting anything in return. Sure you will look up expecting him for some time to come.
I'm grateful for the time I had, as I am sure you are.
