we just finished watching a miniseries about Ulysses S Grant on the History Channel ===>
https://play.history.com/shows/grant .... while they term it a miniseries, we found it to be more of an extremely well made documentary .... in our travels we have visited several Civil War Battlefields .... while there we have listened to the Park Rangers presentations and learned from them .... this series provides excellent historical info and does so in a very interesting manner .... we highly recommend it for folks who are interested in this time in history

Have you traveled to the Petersburg/Richmond area battlefields?

both are well covered in the Grant Miniseries .... we visited them years ago under circumstances that prevented us from spending anywhere near as much time as we would have liked .... thanks for bringing them up, we need to see what we can do about getting them on our go back to list ....

My Wife and I are history buffs and found the series very well done. Seeing who produced it I was surprised there were no political undertones. In fact there were some points made that although truthful, reflect badly on today's politics.
We have visited many of those battle fields. Just this year we made our second trip to Vicksburg. At Vicksburg there is a light board that shows exactly what Grant's movements were and the series repeated that exactly.
In years past we have visited the battlefields in the East. The last one was Antietam. I lived in the east for almost twenty years and every summer I explored the historic places.

I think it is the best show I have seen on the Civil War. I have seen a lot of good documentaries on different battles but this show brought it all together showing the war as a whole.

I feel asleep watching it record times. Good show, but I had to watch each segment at least twice. Grant was stationed in my ,hometown of Eureka, CA. They called it Humboldt. That's actually the county now. Fort Humboldt has been well preserved, and is a very nice place to check out if your ever up that way. Grant hated the weather and the isolation of the area at the time. He sure did some travelling in his time. Shoot, it's hard enough now to travel like that.
When my Mom and Dad visited us when I was I was stationed in Greenville, MS, we went down to the Vicksburg Ms battle ground. Awesome!

Forget about Richmond after July 1. It will be all gone including all of Monument Avenue.

My wife and I watched the show and found it to be fantastic. A great reminder of the history of those days for us as we are both well into our 60’s and have forgotten the history classes in school decades ago. Really well done and presented in a enjoyable format. A must see I believe. Unfortunate timing with all the unrest going on today, sad to see the mob trying to erase history. Living in the northwest it’s a long journey to visit the battlefields and other historical locations but we hope to do so one of these soon years.

If those morons weren't raging about that it would be something else. The irony is they are now part of history too, the soon to be forgotten part.
