B.J. Baldwin shootout

Y'all may have read about this late night gunfight B.J and his girlfriend were involved in about 3 weeks ago. If not, here's a good report on the details of the gunfight and the gun & ammo he used. Suggest y'all read the entire article at the link.

Excerpt:

The distance between the attackers and BJ was very significant, which was even noted in a police report. According to BJ himself, who kindly answered my questions when I was working on the article: “Fight started at 14 yards, ended at 23.” Despite the relatively long distance to the attackers, low light conditions, and the fact that the threat was moving and shooting back, BJ “saw the sights at all times” and did not miss a single shot.

The handgun he used was a Glock 19 “Combat Master” from Taran Tactical Innovations. According to BJ, “it is a modified version of the Combat Master. I change a few things to my liking to better suit my defensive needs. My Combat Master isn’t as nice to shoot as Taran’s base model, but for what it lacks in performance it makes up for in reliability and consistency. If you order one and you want the same one I use – ask for Spec B.”

It was loaded with Speer Gold Dot ammo and did not have a red dot sight, which makes BJ’s accuracy even more impressive.

Since the original weapon is usually taken as evidence, after the incident Taran Butler built and gave BJ an identical “Combat Master” Glock 19, to replace the taken gun.

It pays to be prepared. I know I am not ready for this scenario. But, I may be soon.

Did you watch the video at the link? Some comments I've read about this incident questioned his claim that it last approx 3.8 sec. The video of him at the range would seem to dispel that criticism. The man is fast and accurate. :) I still have a couple minor questions that I'd like to know the answers to. Mainly, what kind of holster and carry mode. I suspect OWB, given the speed of presentation.

I'd also love to see some security camera vid of the incident, but apparently there isn't any.

I was wrong about the holster/carry mode. The fellow who interviewed BJ said he Appendix carried, and the pic in the article shows his EDC is some IWB kydex thing. Looked very uncomfortable to me, although I can understand the appendix carry. Much easier to access the weapon if you're driving and don't want to (or legally can't) put it in a dash holster or elsewhere where it's handy.

Still hate kydex tho.

His girlfriend is Tori Nonaka - professional competition shooter and previously on Team Glock. The bad guys picked the wrong couple to jack, that's for sure!!

I'd not be surprised if this flashed thru her mind:

The Gunfighter's Prayer

Lord, make me fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who wish to harm me and mine.
Let not my last thought be “If only I had my gun”.
and Lord, if today is truly the day you are to call me home,
Let me die in a pile of spent brass.

Pretty sure she won't be caught unarmed again. This incident is about as close as it gets.
