Who knows their airplanes? This flew over our place this week. Wife took a bunch of pics. Low fly by over the whole area. Mapping? Bombing run?

Is that an open cargo door at the back?

C-130 with an open cargo door, unsure why. We had one fly over as a thank you to the first responders similar to the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds last week. Maybe that's what they were doing?

Wife says on local social network they say it's some old guy that used to live around here and flies over once in awhile....seems like an odd choice of planes and he forgot to close the door....

As said Canadian C-130 hercules I believe. My bother in law flew transports in the USAF.

C-130 indeed .... we live north of Pope Air Force Base and used to see bunches of them hauling paratroopers from the 82nd at Ft Bragg .... many were said to be older than the pilots flying them

That's hi-tech for Canada....our stealth aircraft...

Bout as stealthy as a fart in an elevator.

Same here. I live in Plano, TX about 20 miles due north of Dallas. We had a C130 go over the day before the Blue Angels flyby. I assume it was a pre-fly-by staging of ground crew, etc. What day was the pic of the C130 taken? On the weekends you might see some military aircraft fly over as the Reservist Airmen are getting their time in.

When I saw the picture I thought maybe it was a delivery of this summers ammo for RR.

Yesterday, the National Guard flew C-130's over all of the towns in CT with hospitals as a salute to the men and women of the medical profession.

If something falls out the back RR, I'd say it's yours. Just like when they say, where did you get that? It fell off a truck.

I was hoping a High Wall would fall out that back door....

I wouldn't, as I say once it impacts the ground it would be useless.... and
you sure wouldn't want to try and catch it falling from there.

I was doing yard work on the lake side of the yard on Wednesday, and two C130s flew down the lake in trail formation. They were pretty low but we see them a lot anyway. They have a range fifty or so miles southwest where they practice dropping concrete slabs with a parachute. So I'm not sure which it was, dropping concrete or a salute.

Same here! Not yesterday though.

That is a beast of a plane! I lived at Grand Forks AFB and these were everywhere!

I din't actually see it, my wife did but I will watch for it from now on. I was on a horse many years ago when a hot air balloon went over low, funny to hear the horses snorting at it and watching.

I had the unique opportunity to cross the Pacific Ocean in one in 1965 on my way to Vietnam. There were 65 of us, all volunteers, packed with all our gear in the back of the plane. 35 hours in a canvas web seat, seated so close that the guy across from you had his knees between your legs. We ate Air Force box lunches packed by AF wives that were stored in the rear and were frozen solid. If you had to hit the head you climbed up on the rail that supported the back rests, and worked your way back to a canvas enclosure with a porta potty in it. We landed in Hawaii and Guam where they took us to an AF mess hall and fed us.

In those days it was MATS. Military Air Transport Service. We had crews from the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps on the three legs. We could smell them cooking food in the galley up front, but we couldn't get any.

We landed in Ton Son Knut and the Loadmaster screamed to get out of his aircraft, so we grabbed our gear and ran out. The AC then taxied away and left us in the middle of the night. We didn't know where we were and we could hear artillery so we all took cover around and under a deuce and a half, until an Army bus pulled up, and laughing at us, told us to get the hell in.

We just had a fly by with a pair of F-something fighter jets. The sound and sight was great as they flew in from the East heading Northwest.
