Just wanted to lighten things up a little. Since Moetur and a few others have been talkin this CB ham radio stuff it just kind of brings back some memories for my distant past

still run a Cobra in our Sportchassis .... it just wouldn't be right to not have one in that rig

I haven't had mine in the new truck. I haven't come up with a good way to mount the antenna on the all aluminium body. I have an Italian antenna that the SWF meter showed 0 when I calibrated it. Although I don't really miss all the trash talk and swearing that much.

Still have a couple radios myself. Was OTR for a while and had a 70's vintage Cobro 148GTL with upper and lower side band.
Got out really well for a CB. Especially with that linear.

We have one in our Motorhome but seldom use it. I do turn it on during traffic delays to find out details, but my experience is that most truckers don't use them anymore. All cell phones now.

To my knowledge, it's illegal for a CDL driver to use a cell phone.
Dunno Coop, maybe hands free is ok...
Talking to each other would not be possible either, that is, not knowing each others numbers.
Keying a mike is much quicker and easier.

Sitting in line I watch the truckers slowly pass and they all have a wireless phone thingy in their ear and they appear to be talking to someone. I assume they're talking to family.

Yes, probably family or friends, so I guess it's ok if hands are free.

Before I quit driving, I had a brand new Peterbuilt with all the bells and whistles. Had a headliner mounted microphone and could pair my phone via blue tooth to the stereo. Conversations were totally hands free through the stereo speakers.

Those were the days. I still have my Cobra 29 in the shack, and I talk to my son on the days when the weather is real bad (snow/ice) and he has to drive over Hughes Gap. Folks around these parts still use the CB. We even have a swap meet every Sunday night at 9pm.

Yes it was! Unfortunately, only drove it about 6 months before I retired.

Thanks for listening. I think it's pretty cool that my Mom and Daughter listen in. I try to be 1st in line, but sometimes the conditions aren't to good.
