The German exploding rifle bullets of WW2...

Post by fortyshooter » Thu Apr 30, 2020 10:29 am

Now those things packed a punch! But there was concern of using these during the war but compared to exploding grenades, artillery shells, and bomb
blast? Really was there a needed concern?

A few years back I was associated with a bunch of Sky Marshall's. Word was at the time that they had ammo that could be fired inside of an air craft and would not penetrate the fuselage. I questioned them about it and they gave me a few rounds. What they are, (I still have some), are 38 cal hollow points with a rifle primer inserted into the hollow point top first. Then a spot of yellow paint covers and seals the bottom of the primer. I fired a few of these at trees and they would not penetrate, just blow the bark off.

Now I'm not recommending anyone try this. I have no idea if the primers were something special, so it could be hazardous.

Just saying.

I used to do that with .22 cal hollow point air rifle pellets. You would glue them on and when they hit a nice pop and a bit more damage to the
board backstop. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. We were professionals.
