A lot of folks have been loosing their minds over the spike in gun sales, according to the many anti-gun stories that have come out in the last couple months. So here's a piece from the Free Beacon that asks a few 1st timers and gunshops why they are arming up. It's not about shooting an invisible bug, as has been claimed by the anti's.

My feeling is that a significant % of that stimulus $$ being handed out will find it's way into the nearest gun shop. Maybe as much as 50-60%, in the next month or 2. March sales may not be a record month for very long.

Brian, a 40-year-old living near Tampa, lost his full-time bartending job in March but was concerned enough about deteriorating public safety that he dipped into his savings to purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield.

"My biggest fear is that our local police force comes down with the virus," he said. "If the good guys are all out sick, who is going to stop the bad guys? When people have no hope, they get desperate. And we fear the worst is to come."

I agree Gunny, and just maybe some are finally realizing that the government is going to take care of them.

I feel pretty sure that as is usually the case, there are many reasons for the jump in sales .... so long as the buyers pass all of the legal requirements, I have no problem with it

All the cheap firearms sold out fast, leaving more high-end guns on the shelves. Not everybody can afford a Kimber.... if the supply chain can keep up, lots more cheap guns will get bought with the stimulus money. Or they will buy those Kimbers anyway, and we will see a flood of “never been shot” used guns when this all dies down. I would not buy any new gun now, I would rather shop the used section this Fall.

My thoughts exactly Al.

And a lot are finding out that it isn't as easy as the media makes it out to be to get one also.
Which is another good thing in my opinion.
The media lied to us, who'd a thunk it.

That may turn out to be true, but all it really means is that Brady, et al, will ramp up their efforts to counter it. They ain't about to throw up their hands and quit.

Im sure they wont quit either. Rumors of gun control laws in a forth stimulus package have been circling

Buying a gun for the first time does not necessarily 'flip a switch' and send new owners to 'the gun owners side' nor does it require a 'I solemnly swear to support the 2A' oath.

Make no mistake about it - a lot of 1st time buyers are buying guns for the wrong reasons and are not planning on changing their 'social position' with regard to gun ownership.

Another forum I frequent has a long and interesting thread on this with some very interesting opinions about it but this forum has a considerably more 'open position' for the discussion on issues of this nature and thats all I am going to say about it.

My son used his to buy a VERY nice 1911 Springfield.

I admit to using part my stimulus check to buy a new gun. But. I have been planning this purchase since December. It is far from my first gun, but its the gun I needed to fill a gap in what I felt existed in my case.

Ive spent the past 2 years bringing an old run down ranch back to life. As I get more fence replaced and run more animals om the land I felt I wanted a good predator gun.something in between a revolver and a shot gun.

That being said. I used the money from the stimulus knowing my day job is secure. I have a healthy emergency savings even if that job wasnt secure. And this was an unplanned added money. The rest of the check will go along with every other spare penny I make to fencing, or savings. Maybe Ill set aside a little for them Fall specials as well.

Good choice on an all around rifle.

Hah! I bought a BB 357 with the brass receiver. I will be heading to the city to pick it up in a few. Its an hours drive.

The city would be somewhere around DFW, right? Anyway, I'm a bit late but welcome aboard. BBSC .41 mag here. Yeah, I'm a .41 mag fan. Had to get a Henry to go with my Blackhawk.

I like the 41 as well. I have a model 57-1 revolver. Thought about looking for the carbine. But for teaching the wife and kids to use them is far cheaper with 38/357! I dont get to the big cities much. Im about an hour to get to Waco. That or College station are the closest place to find anything as big as walmart

I love shooting my .357 Big Boy. It is just such a great gun! Congrats on joining the family!
