Would this not be a great time for the re-birth of drive in theatres? Church services etc; social distancing at it's best. And from the 50's and 60's no less. Might be time for some missed pleasures and happy times. I know I had some!

We actually have three in Oregon.

The return of the Drive-In would be awesome. Great family fun to pile the kids in and car and go see a movie. Of course, we actually would need some movies that weren't superheroes once in awhile....I saw The Plainsman with Don Murray and Abby Dalton at a drive-in with my parents in 1966...

Exactly RR and what a great conduit to present a church service.

SAFE Social distancing....just a thought, however a way to gather, yet feel amassed.

Sonic Drive-Ins are going great guns in our area

The thing about the drive-in is the whole experience, not just the movie. Little kids in the back seat in their pajamas, your pickup truck parked backwards with the lawn chairs in the box, the snack bar....great stuff.

Growing up in SoCal (Fullerton) there were a lot of drive-in movies available, Anaheim Drive-In being the biggest and most poplular. We also had a drive in church in Garden Grove (IIRC).

The Drive In in our town closed down about 5 years ago. It's now RV storage, I think both screens are still there.
Used to be one about 10 miles away but it's been gone for a long time.

Roller Skating rink is also long gone. Don't know what kids do these days on weekends, back in my youth there was usually a dance at Rink or we would be "Cruising the Ave". We still have a small Bowling Alley but who knows when it will be allowed to open back up. Pretty hard to practice "Social Distancing" there. All our leagues were cut short by a month, they're trying to keep their employee's on doing cleaning, painting and maintenance but don't know how long they will be able to keep going with no income coming in.

Most of our drive inns back in the day would close down for winter but one had in-car heaters along with the speakers so stayed open longer. The last one in the area was located about 80 miles north of Spokane WA in the Kettle Falls area. It closed down two or three years ago.

Too bad so many disappeared. Considering the current situation and guidelines we are facing, I think they would be a perfect venue for movies, church services etc.
After all...gas is still cheap as well...maybe sell TP at the snack bar.

Most drive ins closed as the property became much more valuable for developers than the returns from the basically two days a week the drive ins operated.

Just a sign of the times.

There was one in Beaverton/Aloha until a few years ago. It's now a big maintenance yard and parking lot where the metro Tri-Met buses park at night.

Yeah man bring them all back! Think I lived at either Shoney's Drive-in or the various drive-in theaters...back in the day

Starlite Drive In. Dusk to Dawn. Buddies in the trunk. Back seat memories.

You guys are making me hungry...

We still have one in Elizabethton, and it going strong.
