our home is in central NC .... we spend the summer in our camper in East Central South Dakota .... today we drove to Kones Corner http://www.koneskorner.com .... talk about out in the middle of nowhere, it most certainly is .. .. its has been in business for most of 100 years and has been selling firearms since the '60's .... they advertise an inventory of 2,500 firearms in stock .... they are a Henry Dealer and have several new and preowned Henry rifles in stock ... I found a Henry Lever Octagon H001TV chambered for .17HMR among their display https://www.henryrifles.com/rifles/leve ... ier-rifle/ .... that was the first/only time I've seen and held one .... it was an interesting little rifle that I'd love to shoot .... I also got my first look at a Big Boy Steel H012C chambered for .45 Colt .... I couldn't tell any difference between it and our Big Boy Steel H012 chambered for .44 Mag .... Kones is a historic business in this part of the county, we've never bought anything there but stop buy whenever we are in the area

My trips to South Dakota shooting prairie dogs I found out real quick they have a lot of "Middle of no-where places." I always liked it when you asked directions from one of the locals and they would say "It is right up the road you are on." Right up the road was usually the biggest part of 100 miles.

That is a pretty impressive store. There is a similar store in the Upper part of New York. I've only been there once. It's has a convenience store, guns and guitars. You just never know what you'll find.

the roads in this part of the country are laid out in squares ... directions are usually based on needing to go so many miles in one direction, turn in another direction ?? miles later, in another direction ?? miles later and so-on .... to a casual viewer, the countryside looks pretty much the same in all directions, so long as you know which way is north/south/east/west, that works pretty well .. .. it is truly a beautiful area that we really enjoy visiting

I think that 2,500 firearms isn't a store, that is heaven.

its a little over 100 miles north of Sioux Falls .... about 20 minutes west of I-29 Exit 164 at the intersection of HWY's 22 & 81 ....

nope ... can't see any justification for doing so .... they have no interest in this forum and Henry only makes up a tiny portion of their inventory

I worked out in Sioux Falls one summer quite a few years ago. I enjoyed the area and the people.

South Dakota to me always seemed like two different states. After crossing the Missouri River it seemed to really open up more with the huge expanses of the long grass prairies. Everything seemed to be a lot farther apart more like Wyoming and eastern Montana. We once asked at Valentine, Nebraska the best route to Pierre, South Dakota and the lady said just up Hwy.83. About 125 miles or so later we finally got there and I think the only turn I made was to go east on I-90 for a ways to get back on Hwy. 83 to go on to Pierre. We were warned by the lady not to travel that road with just my wife and I that if we broke down and had to leave our pick up we would return to our vehicle with every thing missing from inside and maybe only half our truck left. Western South Dakota was a very windy area most days and a real challenge to shooting the prairie dogs when distances got long. Terrible place for rattle snakes but eastern Wyoming and E. Montana are rattle snake infested also. Rest areas had signs on the dumpsters to not get to close they had rattlers under them.

over the years I've only seen one garden snake in the area we of Eastern SD that we frequent .... that isn't to say there aren't any rattlers around, just I've never seen any and don't recall many discussions about them .... there are said to be 4 groups of poisonous snakes in the US, our home state of NC has them all .... rattlers, copperheads, water moccasins, and coral snakes
