Local tea plantation

Clovispup and I visited the only commercial tea plantation in America. It's on Wadmalaw Island not far from Charleston. Interesting to see the tea production process. It's not a very large facility, but it has a long history. Ironically, the current plantation was started as an experiment by Lipton back in the 1960s, when there was an embargo on Chinese imports. Looking at the plant, a variety of camelia, and the process, it makes me want to put a few plants in as bushes, and try my hand at making my own tea.

Visited the Angel Oak on the way home. Believed to be the oldest tree east of the Mississippi. It is an extremely large live oak tree.

What a fabulous tree! Good to see it has been so very well cared for with external supports for those massive branches. It' a treasure to be sure. Thanks for sharing the day with us.

Looks like a nice place to visit ! That tree you mentioned reminds me of the one we have in town. Guessed to be around 300 yrs old and still growing
the city folk here call it the cucumber tree. Planted in front of the Violet Bank Museum which was a plantation before the Revolutionary War and later Gen. Lee's temporary headquarters it has seen a good bit of history.

both the Angel Oak and Bigelow Tea Plantation are great places to visit .... we really enjoy the time we spent there

They make great tea as well. I bought some of their green, as well as some Earl Grey. Both were excellent.

Did you get into Charleston at all? Absolutely one of the most beautiful cities me and Mrs. Chef have every visited. Patriots Point, USS Yorktown, even did a haunted Charleston walking tour. Will go back again once we're retired.

Well, I live there.

Summerville, actually, which is a suburb of Charleston. The Pup and I have been hitting some of the places we haven't seen in years, or haven't seen yet. During the cooler months we are making excursions mainly for photo taking.

Yes, it's been a while, but have been there a couple times. I'd like to visit Ft Moultrie again before the weather warms. Perhaps save a revisit to Middleton Place until this fall. Usually more interpretive history going on then. I remember getting a kick out of the last visit I made there. The Patriot had come out recently, and I commented that there was no shipwreck in the riverbend in front of Middleton. I've dove that several times. No shipwreck. Of course, we also joked about the long downhill shot they had going toward Charleston. Someone asked about it, and we told them they knocked it down to build I-26. For those not from Charleston, it is very flat around here for the better part of 50 miles in all directions.
