Handled Like a Dream

I got my new Henry .44 Magnum All Weather out in the field today. I cycled 100 rounds through it without a problem. Winchester 240 gr. rounds are what I used. Although no hogs were out, I introduced the rifle to several turtles and some targets. It was 80 degrees and sunny on the ranch I was on in Archer County, Texas. Looking forward to going back in the morning. Thank you to everyone for your comments and help with the questions I’ve had. I’m looking forward to a long relationship with my new gun.

How did the rifle like the targets and turtles? Sure is a looker.

I few turtles chuckled at me and my aim. A few more are fish food. I was pleasantly surprised that there was virtually no recoil. I had more trouble with the sights then I had hoped. My vision just isn’t what it used to be. I’m sure I’ll have questions soon on recommendations on sights. You’re definitely right about the gun being a looker.

Skinner peeps solved my issues, I didn't feel I needed a scope yet.

Glad you had fun on your first outing.

As for sights, you may end up cycling thru a variety of them. I ended up putting a Nikon Buckmaster on my .41 carbine due to 75 yo eyeballs. It isn't very aesthetic, but I'm too old to care about that anyway. I wear bifocals but have found that what works best for me is to simply remove them and use the scope for focusing.

Congrats on the new AW Sure would love to pound a few hogs with mine in 45-70. Need to get mine out and play with it a little more. Looks like nice country you are in. I really like Texas.

You can modify the factory rear sight insert by opening up the V to more like a .130 width U shape which allows more area around the bead for
easier target pick up. I did that on my Henry .44 Carbine and then later a .150 ghost ring type insert on my .357 Henry.
