Sad day

My son called me today and told me that he had to put our family dog, Annabel, down. She was 12. I still remember bringing her home from the pet store. She was a squirming, brown armful that just had to lick every one. She was considered the family dog because my son's family was living with us at that time Annabel grew up with his two kids and she was spoiled rotten. In reality, she was my dog. I taught her all kind of things and she would only go on walks with me. We would rough house together in the living room until we got yelled at. She was a medium sized and could give me quite a tussle. Some times she would get to excited and give me a nip by accident. I would say ouch and she would get all lovie-dovie and roll over to get her belly scratched. One of the toughest decisions I had to make was to leave her behind when I moved but my son's daughters would have been heart broken if I took her. I could go on about her but I won't. I will miss her. My heart is broken.

I'm sorry, too, Wiz. A decade ago, my wife and I waited too long to bring our eighteen year old pet cat to the vet for euthanasia. His kidneys had failed and he suffered for several days before we acknowledged what was happening. We both cried, holding onto him as he died, heartbroken to lose such a good, old friend. Love hurts.

Have been there as well Wiz. They ARE family. Very hard thing to go through. I had to lay out of work when we lost our 16 year old Himalayan cat, ( Sidney ). Was just too emotional to perform my duties.
Thoughts are with you and your family.
Memories never die...

Yes it is tough to have to say good bye to your dog when they have been part of the family a long time.
Sorry for your loss.

We too have been thru it. The worst for us was when we had to euthanize my wife's sable shepherd, her service dog for twelve years. The dog had literally saved her life twice. She developed spinal stenosis, rather than have her suffer...Afterwards, Miss Tina was devestated, and I took a four day weekend from State Police. No complaints, the LT had a framed picture of HIS shepherd on his desk.
Sorry for your loss. BTDT.
