NASCAR moving to single lug-nut design for Next Gen car next season .... it will be interesting to see how well it performs under race conditions

Yes, put open wheels on them too and you can be sure they won't be swapping paint. Only driver skill!!

Also, maybe make them turn right on occasion. Not just road courses I mean either.

I'm an old hold-out as some of you know, but if they implement this, I'll be slipping away.
I didn't like it when the 4-Barrel Carb went away.
But I'll tell you all what would send me away for good would be Automatic Transmissions.
As is is, I'll be sending Nascar some messages on this latest joke.

Kinda funny, ( not ha ha funny ), how NASCAR continually complains about attendance, viewers, but keep getting further & further away from what made this sport. As forty said, the 60's & 70's were the best attraction. 409, 427, 428, 429 ci, engines, HP to match.
That was racing to me. And yes I know I'm an old timer. I started out listening to the race on Sun., while I washed the ca, under the shade of a tree. No TV.
Guess the good ole days are gone......

Obviously, they are trying to get the young crowd and the "in" crowd's attention with the new multi-inch Aluminum Wheels and that silly 1-Lug Nut, while abandoning Tradition. Will it work? I say the stands will continue to empty.

I'm not in the "NASCAR loop", so I don't understand the logic behind the 18" alum. wheel & mono lug nut. From what I read on it, the lug nut stays in the wrench, throughout the race. Now, if that holds up that long, fine. But what if the threads get cross threaded? Gonna take some time to fix that. Time you can't spare. Plus, you have to hold the wrench on the nut until the wrench starts to ratchet. Of course, everybody will have the same thing.
To me it looks like a solution looking for a problem. JMHO, we'll see.

As a non American that follows NASCAR a little I can't see the issue with the change.
Just like our V8 Supercar series here in Aus anyone that thinks the race cars share anything other than a very basic appearance with their road going cousins is kidding themselves.
I don't know if your mustangs are different specifications to ours but 19" alloy wheels are standard factory fit on our road cars as are alloy wheels on just about every make and model. The last road going ford I owned that ran 15" steel wheels was a 1993 model and even then if was only the base model that got steel, alloy wheels were a option or standard on most models and 16 or 17" size.
Most race series have been running a single nut wheel since the 1980's our Supercars went from a 17 to 18" wheel in 2013. The biggest benefit of going to a larger wheel size I have not seen mentioned. You can run a larger rotor and caliper giving a very big gain in braking performance.

Even my 1999 Ford Lightning truck has 18" wheels.

We've had 5 and 6 Lug Nut Wheels for 72 years straight now.
One of the only things Nascar has left is Tradition.
Start throwing away the Tradition and watch the stands empty even further.
It's not really the physical lug nuts themselves, but the principle of it.
That's my prediction anyway.
