Been a while since I had it out and have some of those 500 gr. 45-70 loads to hammer the steel with!

If I remember yours will be in .45 Colt? Will you be loading some special loads for it like 300 gr.?

I have a bunch of 250 gr loaded up ready to go but will see later on. Can't shoot steel at my range so big lead won't make much difference on paper. Pop cans maybe....

Nope, can shoot in other areas too as long as you have permission or know the owners.

I have open BLM ground here. So we can set what we want out there. Just was wondering if there was a place you could do that up there. That way you could shoot some steel.

Actually I have a friend who would let me do that. Good idea.

I never really loose the itch to shoot any classic falling block single shot, though we don't have a big boomer like a 45-70, right now. Our bolt guns still get the nod for shooting the absolute smallest groups, mainly because of their match grade triggers, but the classic single shots can still compete for accuracy.

RR, sure hope that High Wall comes your way, soon. Can't wait to see what it will do in your capable hands.

Hey All,

RR you can shoot on crown (government) land can't you? You can't be very far away from some are you? I would shoot on crown land for uphill downhill practice since most ranges are flat.

Sorry, was pressed for time. Yes I can shoot on crown land. It requires homework though. Could be grazing lease, too close to a side road, etc. Also every MD has different bylaws. Have to be careful. When I pack a rifle doing cow work I am on their land with permission. If I am riding near home or in hills nearby I am in forest reserve which is grazing leases mostly and people know I am in there. But to just drive into the bush, pick a spot and shoot....risky if someone makes the "I heard gunshots" call to the RCMP.

Well I got a chance today to scratch that .45-70 itch with the High Wall.
