There's a Facebook page called Traces of Texas where the blogger posts historical pictures that he's been given or researched. This one was in today's posting. I thought that it might be appreciated by some here:

"Texas Ranger Jules Baker in "Colorado," Texas, undated. Not sure if the location is Colorado City, Texas, or Colorado, Texas, which is a very tiny community in Bastrop County. He was one of three brothers who were all Texas Rangers. He dons a cartridge belt having full loops filled with rifle cartridges for his 1895 Winchester SRC. His pistol might be a Colt Single Action Army. This is a man truly ready for whatever the treacherous plains of Texas could throw at him."

Man its tough to see that rifle rested on its muzzle !

fascinating ammo belt .... don't recall ever seeing another like it .... it had to be heavy .... from what I've read, the Winchester Model 1895 was chambered for several full-size military and hunting cartridges such as 7.62×54mmR, .303 British, .30-03, .30 Army, .30-06, .35 Winchester, .38-72 Winchester, .40-72 Winchester and .405 Winchester ..... he belt loops look to me to be for 45 LC type cartridges .... I also don't recall seeing another picture of a Texas Ranger with his rifle's barrel turned down like the one in the picture .... thanks for posting the picture, its a true piece of history

Great photos, yes the one is color was done quite nicely. Have seen the b&w one before. The guy on the left have a '76 centennial Winchester maybe?
