NASCAR 2020

Post by JEBar » Wed Nov 20, 2019 4:11 pm

I wouldn't have predicted it but can't say I'm surprised to hear that Jimmie Johnson, seven-time NASCAR champion, to retire after 2020 season

It's about time. He's kinda lost it. I always thought Karl Edwards did the right thing and went out on top.

Just heard on the radio. Unless it was not in his control, I say it's a mistake. I would not have given up that easy.

In my opinion, Carl went out because of medical reasons. He didn't want one. He was always a health nut and his wife is in the medical field. I believe they had a lot of conversations on the subject and he decided to draw the line. I believe a lot of drivers gave it some thought after all the concussions that Jr had. But Carl acted upon it.

You may be correct, but Karl had made a lot of money already and I think did the smart thing.

interesting .... I hadn't heard that theory .... I suspect that the 2020 season will be like the last one for Jr and Jeff .... tributes will be paid at most if not all tracks

it looks like Kurt Bush has found a home for at least a couple more years .... Ganassi gave him good equipment and he ran really strong in several races

CONCORD, N.C. — Jimmie Johnson’s impending retirement from full-time NASCAR competition has already kicked off next year’s silly season with one big, tipping domino. The seven-time champion’s decision to step away creates one of the highest-profile vacancies in the garage with Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 Chevrolet for 2021.

Cole Pearn stepping down as Martin Truex Jr. crew chief .... it will be interesting to see how it impacts the team's success

Pearn and Truex were a good match.

I did not know that he was a Canadian, which seems to be the main reason for leaving, after switching owner locations.

Did not know he was a Liberal either, lol.

At this point I can't even guess who would be a good replacement.

Any guesses out there?

I'd go with someone young and racey. Lots of good young drivers in the Xfinity series to chose from.

NASCAR Hall of Famer and 'Last American Hero' Junior Johnson dies at 88
===> https://www.espn.com/racing/nascar/stor ... on-dies-88

I well remember siting in the stands at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the '60's watching Jr Johnson's Ray Fox #3 white Holly Farms Poultry Chevy thunder around the track .... I can still visualize his car flying into the third turn setting off the chain reaction wreck in which Fireball Roberts was killed .... he was a heck of a driver who became a folk legend in our part of the NC mountains

Ol' Junior was a great one and won't see any more in that league again. Nascar today too polished for that and too many young ones without that "character" that comes from the tough years thru racing!

one question resolved :

Joe Gibbs Racing announced Thursday that James Small has been promoted from lead engineer to crew chief of the No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Small is no stranger to teaming with Martin Truex Jr. as the pair have worked together in some capacity for the past three seasons dating back to their time at Furniture Row Racing. Last season, Small served as the lead engineer for the No. 19 team that won a series-best seven races and claimed 15 top-five finishes and 24 top 10s on the way to a runner-up result in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.
