Have been a bit negligent with my parenting.
Daughter recently turned 18 and I cant ever remember her shooting a rifle with open sights.
I started her off with scoped rifles, she has done a little bit of shotgun shooting and pistol but open sighted rifles had been completely missed. With summer almost here and weekday evening cowboy silhouette match starting at the local range this week I dragged out my old Erma 22 to check it over the weekend.
Had a few shots to check my sight settings. I am not a fan of changing settings during a match so use a different POA at each distance.
Once I had it sorted I handed the rifle to her with instructions to aim at the feet of the chicken.
She elected to rest her elbows on the bench instead of shooting freehand, first shot was on target so said put another 5 down range.
I might have been negligent when it came to open sights but think I must have covered the how to shoot thing OK.

You taught her well.

Looks like she might be able to out shoot the old man.

Maybe it's time for her to give you some tips.

tip of my cap to you for spending time and building happy memories with your daughter ... hope she enjoys it and y'all are able to build many more

She can certainly shoot, I finished 3rd in a 200m benchrest rimfire comp last year, beaten by my daughter and son
Wife beats me regularly in pistol comps, I just remind them their success is due to the expert coaching they received.

Daughter told me this morning she wants a pink gun for Christmas. With all the hoops to jump through I doubt I could get the paperwork and a rifle in time. She isnt even sure what calibre she wants. I cant afford it anyway but there is a howa 222 sitting in the safe at the farm that doesnt see much use. A quick search online turned up a muddy girl stock to suit at a reasonable price.

Nothing like a good day at the range with your daughter!

Only a few at the range yesterday so we had a bit of a practice shoot instead of shooting a match.
Daughter wasnt going to shoot but I talked her around. She was sure she wouldnt hit anything so started her on pigs.
Pig down first shot and did the same with the rams. Missed plenty but 1/5 on pigs rams and chickens, after I had a bit of a shoot she decided she would have a few more shots and went 3/5 on pigs and rams. Full of confidence she decided to have a go at turkeys, 1/5 on them. It has given her enough confidence she will shoot a full match at some stage over summer.
