To stick the Mustang name on this new electric roller is just plain insane!
Should have brought the Pinto name back out!!
Great way to turn off your customers.
Wonder what great sounding exhaust will be on it????

Many of the electric high performance rollers have a lot of get up and go torque. I think the silent acceleration swoosh is cool and exciting. I'm more surprised they'd make an SUV and call it a Mustang!

I also think converting a Pinto to electric would be interesting. Had a baby blue station wagon when I was in college. Nice looking car, but I hated the 4 cyl/5 speed. That car could not go faster than 60mph. In the 40's going uphill.

has anyone seen info from Ford on the life expectancy and replacement cost of the batteries they will use in their Mustang ... I haven't seen any discussions about it

NMC batteries have a deep discharge cycle life of 1000-2000 cycles [With Ford's active heating/cooling to regulate battery temperature the cycle life is probably much higher].
Compared to the Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA) batteries used by Tesla, deep discharge cycle life of at about 500 cycles [Tesla estimates 1500 typical or about 300,000-500,000 miles].

A great big key that winds them up would be much more environmentally friendly. Or they could make them like Hot Wheels and just redesign the highways so everything is downhill. I guess you can see I am not much of a progressive thinker....

Ya the manufacture of new and reclamation of used batteries can be nasty environmentally. The battery life story part that gets hushed up and swept under the carpet.

I had the same thought when I saw the “Mach E” on the internet yesterday. Why would you diminish your only sports car by sharing the name with an electric car? Dumb!

That was an attempt to relabel the gutless Pinto. Gave the Mustang reputation a bad rap.

Ford's offering low to high end performance models. Which I think would be a mistake. Sounds like the low end models are wimpy and would not live up to the Mustang name, and share the shame of the Mustang-II. I think we'll be surprised by the high end performance models. Done right electric cars are really good at acceleration. One of the articles I read claimed 0-60 in 3 seconds as the design target. What I found amusing was the sound effects generator they're putting in the electric Mustang to make it roar.

Sound effects generator?! Wow! My next point was going to be that part of the Mustang’s charm is that beautiful low rumble as it accelerates. Faking that is just wrong. This vehicle should have it’s own name. Maybe revive the “Probe” name. LOL

And while EVs are known for being somewhat silent, Ford says it worked hard to give the Mustang Mach-E its own unique growl. After benchmarking everything from the Batmobile from the Christian Bale-era movies, to vehicles from Blade Runner, to the noises from all the teams’ cars in all-electric racing series Formula E, Ford says it created 30 unique sound profiles for the Mustang Mach-E. The company then focus grouped those sounds around the world, and ultimately settled on a “throaty acceleration note” that sounds more like an internal combustion engine than I expected.
Does it rival the sound of a naturally aspirated V8? Not even close. But in a brief demo ride, I thought it sounded fun and unique, somewhere in between the high-pitched whirring of most electric vehicles and the grumble of a sports car engine.

I honestly wish them the best, hope it proves to be a big success .... guess I'm too old but I personally, have no interest in owning one .... electric vehicles simply don't have the capability we require in our vehicles
