how many folks interested in concealed carry prefer a revolver ? .... how many prefer a semi auto ? .... what caliber ? .... how many rounds of ammo ? .... recommendations and observations would be appreciated

I really only have revolvers. I carry a .38 special, 5 rounds and a .357 magnum with 6 rounds. I have been hunting and shooting since 1958 and had many a firearm but, are you ready for a good laugh, the last time that I shot a semi auto pistol was in 1965 in Navy boot camp when we shot 1911's. I am not planning on starting a collection of semi autos at almost 71. As a second thought, here in Pa. my permit is only $20.00 and is good for five years before I have to renew it. No gun course required.

I carry a semi-auto. Its a Springfield XD-9 Sub-Compact. At minimum I carry a ten-rounder in the pistol. But I can also carry two 15 rounders.

Glock 36= 45ACP and an extra mag.

I carry and prefer my revolver. It's a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum, 5 rounds, 4.2" barrel. Another five rounds go along in one of two belt carries: a leather pouch with a Bianchi speed strip carrier, or an HKS speed loader. I like the simplicity and dependability of a DA revolver. And this Ruger stainless steel revolver fits the bill perfectly for me.



I made two adjusts to this revolver. Had a gunsmith remove the front dovetail and fiber optic sight, and replaced it with a pinned black ramp. A little splash of light green paint on the sight provides really good sight acquisition. Changed the stock grips to a black Hogue Monogrip.

Some would say this revolver looks kind of plain, but the silver and black combo is the very best look for me.

Concealed Carry.....what's that?.....I live in the SF Bay Area

I live in Illinois. Just completed my conceal carry training and qualification last weekend. The training cost $150 (mine cost $100 since I was in the army). Then I had to apply for the license through the Illinois State Police - that cost an additional $150. Now it could take up to 120 days before I am granted a license.

It really puts a bad taste in my mouth to pay $250 for a right that is guaranteed by our constitution and I served to preserve.
If I am granted a license, I plan to carry this Ruger LCRx .38+P revolver. I do not own any semi auto pistols.

Yes, I agree, that is a lot of dough and a long time to wait. I do feel for you and some other people. Here, the sheriff has 45 days to say yes or no. From the time I mailed in my application I had my LTCF in two weeks.

My most often carried pistol is my Kahr CM9. It just fits well with anything I wear and I can pocket carry in a jacket if I need to.
Here are all three of my carry guns. The Kahr is on the left, Taurus 85 top, and Ruger SR9c on right. All good for carry. I prefer to carry the Ruger owb because it feels a bit too thick.

Glock 36-.45ACP. I got my permit two weeks after I filled out the paperwork and it's good for seven years. Nice thing about living in Fl.

Here is my summertime carry glock 42

I have four guns that I use for concealed carry, depending on how I am dressed and what I may be doing.

Ruger LCR .357 (5 rounds w/2 5-round speed strips) = 15 rounds
SA XDs .45 (6 round magazine w/1 7-round magazine) = 13 rounds
Ruger LC9 (7 round magazine w/1 9-round magazine) = 16 rounds
Ruger LCP (6 round magazine w/1 6-round magazine) = 12 rounds

All are carried IWB except the LCP. It goes with me when I have to pocket carry.

My ammo for all four is the appropriate caliber of Hornady Critical Defense.

I carry a Glock 43 or an LCP depending on clothing requirements. Summer without coats the LCP in a pocket holster is my choice.

RetiredSeebee, I also carry an SR in an OWB for the same reason. It's a bit bulky for my taste OWB, but is easy to carry and conceal on a belt in a Mitch Rosen holster.
My other carry guns include an LCP, a snub SP101, and a 4" GP100 depending on my attire and desire for the day.

In WV, starting June 5, we will no longer be required to have a concealed carry license. (Still useful for traveling to other states though - reciprocity)

All states should be like that.
