The cool weather is rolling in here which means fresh air, open windows, better sleep, and heartier meals.
We love the fall colors, and the spooky nights, the hot apple cider/ hot chocolate. It is also around the time we met. (20 years this year)
Between you and me it's the heartier meals I'm looking forward to! It's so much easier to create a menu in the cold days that the warm ones. The boys are willing to eat things like chili with cornbread topping, gumbo, soup, spaghetti, roasts, cast iron chicken, etc.
In the warm days we are looking at cold, light, raw meals, which are more of a challenge.
So welcome cooler days! Let the food begin!!!

Enjoy those 'cool' days Dahlia. I know from my 20 years experience around Chi town, those cool days are quickly followed by just plain 'brutally cold'

I'm ready for it. It was over 90 here today. Hunting season starts in a couple weeks. Hope it cools some by then.

Archery season opens here Sept 1. It’s often still in the 80s or even 90s. I’m not keen on the mad rush to cool meat so it doesn’t spoil. I’ve been bird hunting with the dog, but my first dedicated deer day is this Friday. It’s supposed to be pretty chilly on the pass I’m hunting. Hope I can christen the BBSC .357 with a nice WT buck!

Dahliathemeh, I agree 100% on the food thing. I do love eating light in the hot months, but we’re definitely happy eating the things you listed. My wife used to live in Macon Georgia and makes a seriously amazing cornbread. I’m going to bust out my cooking skills soon and do up a dinner of rouladen and spaetzle. One of my all time favorites!

the first day of fall has come and gone but our daily highs haven't taken a dive .... per the long range forecast, the 90's will hang around until sometime around the first weekend in October ....

@Redthies, I make cornbread, biscuits, or even oatmeal bars in the morning to get the house warm in a hurry. That cold morning is something else!!!

Expecting snow on the ground in my area for this Sunday morning. I've been winterizing the house & yard for the last week.

My heart goes out to you! The earliest snow I have ever seen was living in North Dakota. I opened my shades on October 8 1997 and snow!!! My jaw hit the floor! I wrote my mom and told her.

Actually we are overdue.
In Central Oregon it is not unusual to get snow in the summer at higher elevations that is.
On two occasions I have been camping on July 4th weekends and onetime experienced 11" at one place the night of the 3rd and another time woke up to about 4" on the morning of the 4th!
Both areas were high mountain lakes but its still not particularly rare.

When I left Bartlesville, Ok at six this morning it was 66°. When I got to Houston this afternoon it's 98°.......I'm ready for cooler weather. Here in SE Texas we say we have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer, and Christmas.

Camped at La Pine campground several times. One year over the 4th of July it was over 100. The next year we went back expecting the same and took only summer clothing. It was cold and snowed. Had to go to the store and buy long pants, sweat shirts and jackets.

I think the purple on the map extends into Alberta there where RR lives.

I assume you mean Lapine STATE Park? I live 2 miles from it.

The 11" was at Miller Lake and the wake up to 4" was at Paulina Lake.

our cooler weather must still be somewhere north of the International Boundary .... 94 in our part of NC today .... that broke an 86 year old record which was set back in 1933

Actually Mags, if you look closely at that map, we north of the 49th parallel actually don’t get ANY weather;)

My hunting spot tomorrow is possibly going to see snow! I’d actually like that as it will sure make finding the deer easier!

I love the fall... unusual warm weather hanging on here. I'm annoyed by that ..but that seems to have zero impact on changing anything . But that doesn't keep me from being annoyed. I like the cooler weather...archery season is here in Missouri, but I'm not going until it cools up...not fighting the ticks and mosquitos.....
Fall is a beautiful time, but always puts me in a reflective mood. It's a quiet time. Looking at the landscape, seeing all the leaves past their prime...no more mad vigorous growth going on...no more battle to grow and produce and cover the world over, like in the spring and summer . Everything slows down and there is time to contemplate over what has transpired...a quiet before the coming winter. There is a real similarity between the autumn of our lives and nature's autumn lying before us. The wild stirrings from the "springtime" are still visible, if you look (and recall) though not as lush and vigerous as they were......yep a nice time..but a time to think back over the "seasons" that have came...the quiet before the approaching winter.....I like the fall...... It is a good time to be.....that's what I think ....
