Yep, I'm from Texas

A couple of weeks ago my wife, daughter, and I were in the middle of a 4-day hike in the Andes Mountains in Peru, on our way to the ruins at Machu Picchu. Of the English speakers we encountered on this trip there were not too many Americans: mostly Canadians, Brits, Aussies, and New Zealanders.
Our group had spread out, and at one point I passed a small group of people from another trekking group. As I passed, I said, "How are y'all doing this morning?"
A slightly telling silence ensued. I said, "Yes, I'm from Texas. Could you tell?"
A couple of chuckles from their group, then one guy didn't skip a beat: "You have taller mountains than these there, don't you?" "No," I said, "but we like to say we do. By the way, this is a rare moment of honesty. Consider yourselves privileged."
