A friend of mine told me today that he was on Ebay and saw someone had bid $190 on a Sony Walkman FM. Amazing. I believe I have 3 in a box in my shop somewhere. Puts a new spin on the chore of cleaning out the clutter, will have to have a box of possible extra income from stuff I was going to pitch. One man's trash etc....... Any tips on Ebay?

I've got an old Radio Shack Color Computer and an old Atari stored in the basement. Wonder what they're worth.

Ernie, I just did a quick scan on ebay under Sony walkman. All the used ones were ten to thirty dollars. Ones purported as new in the package were a hundred to one fifty.
I had a friend who sold vintage toys on ebay. Sometimes he found them from other collectors who were not internet savvy and some times he literally found them out for junk in peoples yards. Either way, he made the most money when he got two or more people who would get into bidding wars over the items. Normally, he would just set a reasonable starting price and fair shipping. He would get one bid, the starting price usually, and ship the item to the new owner.
A fellow I worked with had an unscrupulous sister who used to go to the dollar store and list the items for five and ten dollars when ebay first started. Apparently she did pretty well.
Buyer beware I guess.

I've only bought on ebay. If you sell, it's a bit of work and a small cut of the price to ebay and paypal I think. You ship it and make sure it tracks to prove delivery. I'll bet there are three folks out there who might give a couple of bucks for your old walkmen! If you don't sell them, donate them to a local organization that will get them to someone who will use them.

If you want to seriously sell on ebay, search the models you have, follow them and see if they sell and what they sell for. If you have desirable models, they may go for more than what I saw. If not, you may need to group them to spark interest to get the cost of the item over the shipping cost. Ebay reaches a lot of interested buyers. Good luck.

You might want to ask your friend if he was possibly confusing a 'buy it now' or 'best offer' price with an auction?

There are currently 67 pages of 'Walkman' items listed on Ebay and most are listed as a buy it now or best offer.

There are a few that are at auction and are being bid on but these are apparently 'key' models, NIB or some other rarity. One is bid at $375 but it is a NIB 20th Anniversary model.

Most of them that are at auction have zero bids.

Best thing to do is 'comp' out your particular Walkman models with those listed and see what they are going for.

Took the time to check out Ebay. Did not see what my friend was talking about. If it sounds too good to be true..........

I think I have a Walkman in the garage along with my Atari 800 and a TI 99/4A. I may be rich soon.

I still have my first computer, a Kaypro II with all of its software; two first edition mobile bag phones; 2400 baud and 56K modems; and a nine-pin dot matrix printer; etc. They are all worth nothing except for the memories. It's way past time to clear the attic and basement of this nostalgic crap.

I don't have my first computer, but I have the multi volume IBM PC Technical Reference. And I do have a Sony Walkman I noticed recently in one of my older junk drawers.

I had the original Pong game I bought new, grew tired of it quickly and then carried the box with all the overlays etc around with me for years thinking that someday I might get my money back out of it. Finally dug it out a couple years ago to find everything had corroded and I pitched it.
