A 9mm gatling gun

Post by GunnyGene » Thu Aug 01, 2019 3:05 pm

I love this. If I had a spare $5000, I'd get one. Maybe they'll come out with other calibers/gauges.

This doesn't fit in any of the established categories, but since it's 9mm I figured the Handgun forum would be best. Range toy, or good for the zombie apocalypse. :D

Brought out a couple thousand rounds for the shoot....whoa. Not only a well-to-do person's toy, best if the person also did his own reloads, too. Gunny, a solid-looking firearm in your video selection. Definitely fits quite well in the "Other Firearms" forum. ;)

A gatling gun is pretty serious stuff. Easy to remember the battle scene where it was used with such devastating force and results in the movie, "The Last Samurai." Or the challenge it presented in trying to take down the armored-protected stage coach in "The War Wagon." Nothing to mess with when at the wrong end of it!

Don't even have to worry about burning out the barrels(8). 1000rds is only 125 per barrel. That crank handle would have to be removable tho. This thing just begs for an electric drill. ;)

Don't know, but I do know a couple dozen guys who could easily afford both the gun and the ammo to feed it. Pocket change for some of them. :)

Same reason people buy any other unique or unusual firearm. Because they can.

I don't. But my wife does. Payback, I suppose, since I've asked her that question about diamonds.

I'm now on the "conservative" side of ammo usage with a single-shot BP round ball pistol.

All good questions, all good answers. When Al said, "Its a cool toy for some," that sums it up. To each is own.
Ah, noticed that already Gunny wants to do a mod with an electric drill to more rapidly rotate those barrels. That should pile the brass up mega fast :!:

The one thing they warned about in the video was this mod... :D
It makes it a class III machine gun, with the hand crank, it's a standard firearm, and no extra stamps or permits are needed.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

And a bump stock turns a semi-auto AR into a machine gun to. ;) ;) Absolutely Magical! And Simply Irresistible.

As did I and a few million others. :) The design of this gatling gun raises some interesting questions tho, relative to whether adding a mechanical device such as a drill would make it a machine gun. The defining characteristic of a gatling gun is that it does not have a trigger, thus the prohibition against "trigger cranks" does not apply. There is no mention of how the crank is to be turned. See below:

Quoted from ATF:
“Multiburst trigger activator” means: (1)A device that simulates automatic gunfire by allowing standard function of a semiautomatic firearm with a static positioned trigger finger or a device that fires multiple shots with the pull and release of the trigger; or(2)A manual or power-driven trigger activating device constructed and designed so that when attached to a semiautomatic firearm it simulates automatic gunfire.“Trigger crank” means any device to be attached to a semiautomatic firearm that repeatedly activates the trigger of the firearm through the use of a lever or other part that is turned in a circular motion, but does not include any firearm initially designed and manufactured to fire through the use of a crank or lever
That said, the argument to classify a powered gatling gun as a machine gun appears to rely on "rate of fire", rather than any mechanical attributes. Which begs the question of what is a acceptable rate of fire? So far no one, including the ATF, has come forth with any guidance on rate of fire as a distinguishing characteristic that would separate a non-full auto firearm from a full auto or select fire firearm.
