Fireworks tonight

The city is doing their fireworks display tonight a couple miles away at the airport so I am going to have some anxious cats to keep calm. And, I am sure private parties will be doing their own version Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well. Have a safe and enjoyable celebration of our country's independence. As far as I know we are not having any tanks or armored personnel carriers in our local parade but it should be good as usual. A special thanks to all the veterans!! God Bless you all.

Happy 4th to you as well Ernie! Sorry there won't be any representation of our countries pride for the men and women of our armed forces in your parade.

Go for it Ed!! Wish I could sound off the big 500. Unfortunately, I would probably be arrested where I live.

One thing nice about the muzzle loader no bullets necessary for a boom

Heh. I usually shoot off my Big Bang Field Cannon. Always gets a few calls to the local PD about gunfire. I had a cop show up once and I showed him the cannon and how it works. He said he knew of no law that prohibits firing a calcium carbide cannon within city limits. I fired it for him a few times and after a good laugh he did ask that I use it sparingly.
Overall length is about 2 feet:

We are lucky enough to live in the country, and while the kids were still living at home, THIS was our holiday. I voluntarily worked all the others, allowing other officers to have that time with family, and we celebrated a day early or had Thanksgiving dinner early or late, or the gang went to Gma's house and hung out with the extended family without me. But, I would take a week over the forth..
We spent the day at the River, where the County group had face painting, hay rides, sack races, souvenirs, food, live music, bbq on the grill, fishing... And once it was dark, fireworks out over the river. A great day. No alcohol allowed at this family outing, and they had plenty patrolling, checking coolers, and keeping the family environment.
Now that all the kids are gone.. We stay home.
A couple years ago, at another county park, a young boy out with his family, was struck in the top of the head by a bullet that fell out of the sky, and killed him. No shots were heard. The year long investigation determined the shot came from a rash of celebratory gunfiire in a neighborhood on the other side of the lake located in the park. The shooter was not identifide.
We stay home these days. No need to go out.
