This weekend is going to be great for race fans. I haven't missed very many Indy 500's in the last 50 years.

Have always loved this race. Kind of the Run for the Roses for cars.

I really started to take interest in 1970. I'll be rooting for Scott Dixon. Then at 6:00 PM eastern time we will watch the NASCAR race from Concord, N.C.

I know, 1,100 miles of racing in one day. Sure glad I don't do double duty.

I was raised in Charlotte where the 600 is truly a big deal .... I was in the stands directly across from the accident where Fireball Roberts was killed .... never have developed an interest in horse racing but do watch the Kentucky Derby .... never have been a fan of open wheel racing but usually watch Indy .... will watch every moment of the 600

I got to drive an Indy Type Car about ten years ago. My fastest lap at Fontana was 176.23 mph. The car weighed about 1,500 pounds and had about 600 horsepower but at 160 mph the downforce made it weight 10,000 pounds. It was really glued to the track.

They lost me and a lot of others following the split with CART.

Sorry, but the race has never been the same for me since...................

I quite watching for a few years but came back. I'm not watching much NASCAR now that you can win the Cup without racing the full season.

I guess familiarity breeds contempt (or lack of interest). I live in the state and have only been to the Indy 500 one time and usually don't bother watching it on TV.

I had a good time the one race I went to, but the traffic, crowds, cost, etc. just don't seem to be worth it to me.

I have been to the NASCAR Brickyard race at Indy Motor Speedway twice and feel the same about it.

With both races, I am always interested to see who wins and I hope they have a safe race, but racing just doesn't seem to be my thing. That includes racing of any kind.

We have a horse track about six miles south of my house in Kentucky. I have never been there.

So, for you guys who enjoy it, ENJOY IT! and have a great day.

I think auto racing in general is in decline, at least here in the states.

People still have their love affairs with cars, but for a different reason. Vehicles have become rolling multi-media centers.

You see it in the way they drive as well. No longer do driver's dim their brights. The interaction between drivers has diminished. Children are less likely to observe their parents driving habits, than they are to be watching their own dvd's.

The entire "sport" of driving has given way to the "lifestyle" of social and multi media interaction while driving.

While US highways were never the autobauhn, we are, I believe, in the early stages of self driven vehicles (google/apple) technology.

Get ready for, "Grandpa, Grandma says you used to steer the cars yourself?" "NO WAY !!!!"

My 1987 Bronco II seems like a Model A by today's standards.

This is incredibly cool. I especially like the part about the car weighing 10,000 lb (downforce). That must REALLY feel weird.

They had a few places in Central Florida where you could drive a race car. Richard Petty Experience for one. There are also a number of driving schools in the area. A friend attended one, and let me tell you...............he could drive..........

Fastest I've gone is 125 in my Mustang. Hit some kind of governor.......damn still in 4th gear............LOL

But probably won't watch much of either.

they didn't do well in qualifying but I've got to pull for a Chevy in the 600, my girl's qualified to start in the 19th position .... when you consider that her lap time was 0.415 of a second behind that of Martin Truex Jr's pole winning lap the field is pretty evenly matched

Hey the 600 has had a few first time winners so it could happen.

That's funny SH, guess my '87 Silverado is also.

I heard that the Indy is sold out this year. Being the 100th drew in the big crowd and apparently it hasn't been sold out for twenty years. More than 300,000 people will be there. Glad I didn't have plans to visit the grandchildren. Hotel prices must be through the roof.

As much as I love Racin', the fastest I've ever been was 100. That was on my Harley-Davidson, and 1 time was enough, lol.

I used to love to drag race on back roads with my 4-Speed Chevy, but I would only race the 1/8 Mile. People would ask me to race the quarter and I would just refuse. Not only was it safer on those back roads, I never got a ticket, lol.

Back to the races, I'll be checking in on the Indy Race here and there, but I'll be ready for the Pre-Race tonight at Charlotte.

that was one heck of a wreck .... 4 - 5 cars with full gas tanks up in flames .... I developed a tremendous respect for Ned Jarrett that day when he got out of his car, waded through flames and pulled Marvin Panch out of his car
