I was sitting in the waiting room at my wife’s doctor’s office and logged in to the complementary wifi. I checked in on a few forums and when I tried to get here, I received this message.....
I thought that was way cool, so I started checking other websites. AR15.com, MarlinOwners.com were the same - “Weapons/ Bombs”. Gun manufacturers like Remington, Kimber, Winchester and Sturm Ruger did not get that message, they all got this one....
And a bunch of gun related sites completely slipped past the software.... Gunbroker, RimfireCentral, Lipsey’s, NRA, USACarry, MidwayUSA, Brownells, RugerForum etc and a whole bunch of local northwest gun sites. No worries, there were lots of firearms on display in the doctors office.... LOL.

So, I understand why AR15.com would get blocked, but why lever gun forums, and what has any of this to do with bombs?

as a general rule, private networks (rightly or wrongly) have the right to decide what sites they will and will not allow .... out of concern that as posted the original title could easily mislead folks as to the nature of our forum, I changed the title of this thread .... it would be interesting to hear the reaction if company was asked about the clearly confusing array of what sites are approved and what aren't .... the concept that our forum might not be allowed is worth knowing but it appears to be a minor issue .... we have our own off limits areas which include politics and /or 2nd Amendment and it would be easy for a topic like this to cross those lines, hopefully that won't be the case

I would assume that if they don't allow weapons or bombs to be viewed, that "rifles" in our title trips the alarm. As Jim says, it's their wifi and their dime.

Do they have TV's in the waiting rooms? Do they have the National news on screen?

To be perfectly clear, this kind of corporate policy/censorship is childish and willful blindness in the pursuit of a political agenda. Nothing more.

I have had that happen to myself also. Then I don't use their wifi, as I really don't like "them" know I where I go and what I choose to look at. Besides, public wifi is waiting for, and asking for, something to get into your device. I would recommend using a VPN if you choose to keep using wifi like that.

I did play games with one of the wifi servers in an office once. What really got my goat was good and normal sites were totally off limits, whereas I could easily access any number of really nasty sites that were sexually related.....that made me completely dumbfounded at first. And now, after thinking about this, I SHOULD have went up and asked them if that kind of garbage was allowable in their minds, while I couldn't browse my hunting sites.....

It's not that the 'wi fi' part has anything to do with it as it's the company's server software. When installed the IT person most likely did not Change the settings to either unlock, or block certain content. By default most server software will be set to block anything 'firearm' related and in this case it was left open to access 'adult' content - which tells me the settings had been overlooked.

Couple of things here being munged together. They are separate things. Viewing/blocking of content has nothing to do with the type of underlying connection.
o Open Access to a WiFi connection (public hot spot).
o Internet content viewing/blocking.

When I travel to certain parts of Germany all such websites are blocked as “Violent Content”. Archery sites can be blocked as well. My colleagues and I hate the “Nanny web”.

Other areas we have access just fine.

My reply was just a light-hearted statement, but other than this computer, I don't use any kind of connections out there. Therefore I can't be blocked if I got nothing to be blocked with, lol.
