My dealer was impressed.
He was the one who took the picture.

There were several other people in the shop at the time, and ALL heads turned when I opened the box.
My eye was first drawn to the stock.
I'm here to tell you, cell phone pics don't do this gun justice.
It's very subtle, but you can barely make out the wood grain just below the surface. It really does look like aged ivory.

The checkering is very sharp and crisp. The receiver finish could be used as a survival mirror in an emergency.
The first comment from my brother was about how slick and smooth the action felt.
I just had to grin at that.

My plans? I'm going to shoot it.
I was torn over leaving it new in the box, but I have a thing about useless tools. If I have no use for them, I have no use for them.

I plan on introducing it to my local range tomorrow.
Looking forward to turning a few more heads, and punching some holes in paper.

I'll give a range update when appropriate.

Glad to hear you are going to shoot it... That is one of the reasons i rarely buy true collectables. I use things too.

well understood on the useless tools and I couldn't agree more .... but then, I've never owned a rifle built to that level of finish .... really looking forward to your coming reports

Sounds like a great rifle and your plan is the way to go!

Wouldn't you know it?
Today it is raining. Now, I've been wet before, and I know for a fact that I won't melt, but I really don't like dragging my firearms out in the rain.

So, I took advantage of the alternative.
I have free shooting privileges at my local indoor range.
I do maintenance for them from time to time, so they let me shoot for free.

I took the American Eagle in, but I only ran 10 rounds through it.
I don't like to tie up lanes when they have paying customers waiting.

Well, at 25 yards off-hand, let's just say I'm shooting M.O.S.H. ( "minute-of-squirrel head") right out of the box.
I shot 2 3-shot groups, and 1 4-shot group. the smallest group I could cover with a half dollar coin.
The largest group was about 1-1/2 silver dollars size (2"-2-1/4").
I may have found my new squirrel rifle.
I really like the octagon barrel. The extra weight actually helps to steady the rifle.

One thing I did notice.
The mirror-like receiver shown a glare from the overhead range lights that was very difficult to overcome.
There was a glare directly in front of the buckhorn blade that made seeing the front bead difficult
I think, for hunting, I may cut up one of my Henry receiver "socks" so I can use it installed.
Maybe cut it along the seam and add some Velcro so I can wrap the receiver. I'd need to cut a slot for the buckhorn sights, but I think it would be doable.
It would give the receiver cover a small degree of protection from scratches and scuffs, while blocking out any glare from the sun, and reflections that might "trigger" the squirrels.

I'm sure I'll figure something out, but suffice it to say, I LOVE this rifle!

I've consider doing that too. I haven't yet. Would love to see what you come up with.

Congrats Mgderf!! The heavy octagon barrel is a very nice thing about these Henry rifles. I recently got a Frontier in 17HMR, and I think the octagon barrel is my favorite thing about the rifle. The reason I chose this one over the varmint rifle.

I also have one of the H001T in .22wmr, and it has the octagon barrel.
I hadn't realized until now how much I like that single feature.
