Historians, novelists, publishers, and critics who gathered at the Library of Congress in 1995 to mark Wouk's 80th birthday described him as an American Tolstoy.

An outstanding writer whose life was well-lived and whose novels -- his legacy -- will live forever. Who isn't familiar with The Caine Mutiny?

He certainly was one of a kind for sure. I've read all of his works and thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Course another I really liked was Mitchner.
