Cowboy Music

Post by EasyEd » Fri May 10, 2019 11:25 pm

Hey All,

Be fun to make a full thread outta this...

Here is a very favorite of mine ..

Originally from the Cariboo country of British Columbia...

Trinity Seely

https://youtu.be/JrSKGT0_VtQ

https://youtu.be/AnRq5Rlgffw

I better stop before I get carried away.... 🤠

I've never heard a song from Trinity I don't like. To me her music is a musical equivalent of RRs photos.

Thanks for putting us on to her. I agree, she is good. I was thinking of RR as she sang. A great combination if you ask me.

Wife and I just got tickets to see the Sons of the Pioneers in Lethbridge June 15th. With Roy Rogers Jr.
85 yrs the Pioneers have been going. Many many members but still true to the original sound. Roy Warhurst was their fiddler in the "90's, I recorded my CD's with him. Can't wait!

As a kid growing up in SoCal in the 60's-70's we used to go see Sons of the Pioneers at Knott's Berry Farm. The Wagon Masters were the regular band at the Covered Wagon amphitheater. Loved them. I still have one of their albums on vinyl signed by all the members. My dad was a big cowboy music fan and I listen to Marty Robbins and thing about my dad.

Speaking of Knotts...the guy who was the saloon piano player there for 20 years or so, Dave Bourne, has some great CD's of his piano tunes. I have all 4 of them. He also had a cowboy band. We traded CD's and kept in touch. He is also the piano player at the Gem in Deadwood tv series. He can sure play.

Hey All,

220 thank you for that Aussie. One of the ways I like to pass time is seeking out country, cowboy, folk music from other countries on Utube and Australia has some of the very best. While this song is not cowboy it is about wildfire stockdogs and such by one of my very favorite Aussie duos Sophie and Celeste Clayborne - the sunny cowgirls. Hope to get to Tamworth someday.

An just to keep this cowboy and not totally derail the thread I started  here is a classic by Slim Dusty

I don't know of any cowboy who hasn't gone down the road to a rodeo without Chris LeDoux in the tape deck. I first heard him on the radio in Wyoming in the early 1980's, and bought a ton of his cassettes.

Gone too soon.

Hey All,

I got my first Chris LeDoux cassettes from his mom an dad who were selling his cassettes out of the back of a pickup in the parking lot at the Sisters rodeo in Oregon in the early 80s.

This is my favorite Chris song save one that I dedicate to a woman I should have married 40 odd years ago. This one is about how to live life. I should have done a better job of following it.

https://youtu.be/gk3q68Tmwqg

I was never a big fan of Garth Brooks but one line in a Garth song propelled Chris LeDoux to stardom and when people heard it they started looking up Chris. The line is ...a worn out tape a Chris LeDoux... A strong friendship between Garth and Chris developed and Garth wanted to donate part of his liver to Chris to keep him alive but they were not a match.

Like RR said gone way too soon... The Garth song is Much too young to feel this dam old. It is a great song.

Back on topic...

I saw Chris about 3 times. Once at Cheyenne Frontier days and the others were here in Greeley at the Independence Stampede. His live shows were the best. I never got tired of seeing him live. I would go again tomorrow if he was still with us. Chris would really tear them up with this song it was so cool live.
