Remington Arms to New York State. Bye bye.

Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday announce they are bringing over 2,000 jobs to Alabama. Most of the jobs will be relocated from their Ilion, NY plant, and the initial investment in Alabama will be $87 million.
Founded in 1816 in upstate New York, the company is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating manufacturers. Remington is the only U.S. manufacturer of both firearms and ammunition products and one of the largest domestic producers of shotguns and rifles.

Yep - same thing with Weatherby except to Wyoming:
Adam Weatherby stood on the busy 2018 SHOT Show floor and explained that after 73 years, the historic rifle and shotgun company is pulling up its California roots and moving to a friendlier locale.

I live about 15 miles from Ilion, NY and heard nothing of this in the local news. I believe it’s only a matter of time before Remington leaves NY State for good though.

But they still can't produce a consistently good quality Marlin lever gun, even after nearly TEN years.

I have friends in Ilion NY. I got a private tour of the Remington factory back when they used to give tours. I was fascinated by the fine craftsmen who were working on the high end custom items at the beginning of the tour. I also felt bad that they worked and were kind of on display for us. It was an impressive place. I feel fortunate to have seen it.

I have had multiple problems with Taurus firearms I have personnaly owned or owned by close friends. I give Taurus and big thumbs down until their quality control sees a drastic improvement.
Politics is driving alot of firearm manufacturers to migrate to an area with a friendlier political climate. Illinois' politics have driven Lewis Machine Tool out of Illinois into Iowa along with hundreds of good paying jobs.

I have a Taurus that shoots .45LC. Although I hate shooting it (killer and the hand and wrist), it's reliable and well made. No quality issues. Made in Brazil, so at least made in the Western hemisphere.

The one and only Taurus I ever owned (a Mod 605 I got in trade) is a really great gun. Tight, excellent trigger and very accurate for a snub.
Also many Taurus guns I have either looked at or shot have been pretty good also.
I have however seen some that were not so good as well - Hey they ain't pre lock Smith & Wessons!
