When I think of warm and sunny Florida bears and cougars just don't come to mind.
Protected or not something attacking me is receiving some .45 or .44 !!

We got em thick as theives in Oregon - especially in the central and East side of the state.
Oregon dept of F & W had to shoot one over the weekend that was being a nuisance in a semi-rural neighborhood not far from where I live.

We have plenty of them around here. Coyotes too.

Bobcat killed by a car not too far from here couple days ago. And of course we have the Coyotes around here too.

We've had panthers on our property before. A mother and her cub in the back yard a few years back just around sunset. Lot's of predators here. Almost every night I have a large great horned owl pair that hunts on our property eyeball me and the dog. It's smart enough to know the dog is too big but it still eyeballs it. When we had a cat we used to have a very large black racer that would come to our front window and check out the cat. Gators, panthers, bobcats, coyotes and lots of snakes. It's actually kind of neat to live somewhere with wildlife that you get to see that's not splattered on the road. Plus I here cats taste like chicken.

All through the coastal mountains Los Angeles and the North coastal counties are Cougar and Bobcat. Warning this week about cougar coming close due to the fires.
Of course yotes abound.
Keep your cats and small dogs inside. Even medium dogs.
Domestic cats are bad for the diky Bird population anyway.

CT has Bobcats and Coyotes, but no native Cougars (many citizens doubt the official position of the DEEP about that). We did have an actual Cougar that appeared in CT and was killed by a car on I-95 in 2011. It was determined by its DNA to have migrated here from a population located in South Dakota.

Coyotes are the predominant mammal predator, though we do have a fairly large population of Black Bears and Bobcats.

We lost our last (outdoor) cat to a Coyote about five years ago. My wife saw the killer the next day just off of our ground level deck, apparently looking for more. My current feline companion (Paige) is confined to 1400 square feet of indoor comfort where she hunts toys and plays fetch with me.

Ever since Oregon stopped the use of dogs to hunt cougars about 15 years ago the population has doubled to approximately 6000 statewide - with unofficial estimates putting it much higher - and possibly double this.
There is no doubt it has grown significantly as sightings are very common with sometimes multiple cats wandering into rural neighborhoods.
Oregon is considering some limited hunting with dogs again but nothing yet has been established. In the meantime good luck with your 'predator calls' and covering a lot of ground!

Funny thing here in my city we have coyotes running around but out at my place in the country I have yet to get a coyote on my trail cameras.
Guess they all moved into towns where the food is easier to find....makes sense!

Lots of cougars around here. I've only seen 2 in all my years cowboying, but I'm sure they've seen me lots.

If you get a shot, take it. Is there a music connection there?

2 or 3 years ago we saw a cougar laying on the side of he road in Conroe, TX .... don't know if it had been hit by a vehicle or put down by a game warden .... there were 2 lady wardens there getting ready to load it into a pickup
