In PPC we called this "staging" the trigger, and it works very well on double action revolvers and semi-autos as well. As the man in the video stated, it takes practice. With practice, it becomes as instinctive as slipping your car key in the ignition. My PPC revolver was double action only, but we all put shots accurately on target from 50 yards.

If you decide NOT to fire, you just back off the pressure.

I've always been a revolver fan, really don't care for semi-autos .... I have put in a good deal of practice in staging the triggers on the all three we use; as well as, all of our hunting rifles .... from a personal stand point, I understand the concept but I have some reservations about staging one (single or double action) when confronted with hunting and self-defense situations .... its one thing to do so when practicing under controlled, low stress situations .... its another when under high emotional/stress .... for me, under such conditions staging a trigger and holding it boost the chances of an accidental fire .... for me when sitting in a blind with the crosshairs on bear/boar/deer, staging the trigger is the norm .... when I was charged twice by black bear (one wounded, once when between a she bear and her cub) and twice by boar with a pack of dogs hot on their trail, I have no recollection any pause in pulling the trigger .... I'm most certainly not advocating one way or the other for how anyone one else believes is best for them .... thanks for the video, it most certainly provokes thoughtful consideration

Since there is some interest in the general subject, here's a couple more from Boondocks. I tend to agree with the potential for AD's, but the same holds true for many aspects of SD. Proper training, and lots of practice in this and other techniques and quick situation assessment, is essential imho, and Boondocks emphasizes this in their courses which include many simulations such as those shown below.
