I had the checkering project stock ready to put back together. Then when I was sliding it on the action I must have got it a little crooked and knocked a piece of wood from the top edge. Never noticed it until I put the screw in. I had been working on it out side on the porch and lost the piece. Then I thought maybe I broke it the day before and didn't notice it and swept the piece that broke off up and canned it. So back to work on that stock again. Had to fit a piece of wood in and work it to fit and do some sanding on the top along the tang to try to hide my screw up. Left it sit over night after gluing it in with Brownell Acra-Glas Gel. It is not really to bad and my wife couldn't find where I fixed it. I may use this stock on a every day shooter and stock hers with one of the NOS ones I bought. I think I might be better off to relieve a little wood from the sides to leave the tang slide in more freely with out binding up. On the picture it broke at the top edge above the checkering where the wood narrows down for the tang to slide in. I maybe can get some stain with a red color to it to blend better or just leave well enough alone.

I'd leave well enough alone. You did an excellent repair job. Checkering is really good, too.

That looks like the same piece that broke off my Henry H001. It was one of the thin tabs on either side of the stock that slide into the rear of the receiver. Mine broke because the grain just happened to be at a weak spot and it just separated. Some wood glue and a clamp for 2 hours and it is stronger than new. I saw no reason to bother Henry as it's fixed better than new now.

Adds character. It's one of a kind. I think it looks great.

I agree with ditto. Move on to your next (and what is sure to be amazing) project!

I am sure it looks worse to you than any one else. And if your missus can't see it, it ain't a problem.

...heck I got lots of bumps and missing pieces on me...most with a good story and part of what makes me; me.
