Cat Caught Mole in December?

Cat Caught Mole in December?
Ok, so a couple days ago I open the front door to see a dead rodent dropped off.
This is NOT unusual as my cat loves to catch mice and line them up at the front door but this was no mouse - it was a MOLE.
In December? don't these things stay burrowed deep until spring/summer? A sign of early spring?
Any of you junior wildlife biologists please jump in!

We get both of these here, destructive little guys. Cats have never got one, but my traps do.

Those destructive little critters are around here all the time...hate them. As a cat owner though, I know that the feline brings such a kill as a mole, vole or whatever to the house as a contribution, or gift. Love those cat instincts.

Re: Cat Caught Mole in December?
.
Moles are OCD about keeping their tunnels clear of debris and loose dirt. Likely something disturbed the tunnel. Rain, a worm, someone walk across a tunnel, etc. Heck, when I'm in the mood to hunt them, I park my diesel tractor in the middle of the mounds and let it idle there awhile. The vibration drives them into a house cleaning frenzy and makes them easier targets.
