Wednesday was fun

Post by bandit1250 » Fri Dec 14, 2018 5:24 pm

Went to my LGS and met one of our forum members Swigs. What a nice guy to have a conversation with. Man this guy loves guns and shooting. We talked about guns and scopes and a little bit about reloading. We also talked a little about pickup trucks. We had lunch at a local a diner and it was nice to get to meet another member and just sit and have a nice conversation about any thing we wanted to talk about. He did get one of the new Leupold Freedom 3-9x33 EFR scopes while at the shop and said it was a very good price compared to every where else. He really liked the gun shop. After the gun shop and lunch he headed toward his home but was going to try to shoot a few squirrels on the way at a hunting area on one of the mountains. I later talked with him on the phone and he said the woods was really dead with no squirrels moving at all. On the way home to my place I saw at least 40 or more turkeys in two different flocks. The one group of about twelve were all gobblers.
He is going to come to my place sometime and I am going to take him out and show him some hunting grounds here. Maybe season will still be in when we get out and we can hunt a while. The window of opportunity to shoot squirrels really gets a lot smaller this time of year. Usually better right before a front is coming in.

It's nice to hear you had a nice day and met a new friend.

I remember meeting RetiredSeabee after I got out of work one day. He was passing through my neck of the woods. We had a nice late lunch after a good conversation. I was dead dog tired, but he was so interesting to talk to I don't think it showed.

I hope you get a couple turkeys and a bunch of squirrels. Happy hunting and good for you.

Turkey season was over the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I came up empty this year due to being sick and poor weather conditions. If the weather stays mild next year may be a really good year for turkey hunting if we don't have a cold wet spring. I am probably finished game hunting except a few times out for rabbit if we get snow with no crust on it. I rifle hunt for rabbits after there is snow to see them better at long distance. I don't like killing squirrels this late in the season. I will switch over to predator hunting now until it goes out of season Feb.16 for fox and coons and March 30 for porcupine. Coyotes are year round. Also do some crow shooting until mid April.
