Trying to put together a day for shooting while my gang is together this week. One daughter, one son, several grandchildren.

A number of pistols, a couple of AR's, numerous rifles and shotguns.

Safety first. Fun second.

A fun target is to collect a bunch of those thin bottled water bottles. Fill and freeze them, the cut away the plastic. Place the frozen bottle shaped ice down range as targets. They break up nice when hit and shooting the smaller pieces is a good test of skill, without broken glasd to worry about. Once they are all shot up, mr. Sun handles clean up.

In summer, they will keep well in a cooler.

Another thing we used to do is shoot at the half moon shaped cubes direct from our icemaker. Our deck was elevated about ten feet up, so with the kids bracing on the rail and shooting down into the back yard... Nothing to worry about. Back then, we hadn't moved to the farm, but were still on an acre rural lot. They shot the pellet pistol and rifle from the deck, the 22 on my range. .

Still a challenge, and the sun still handled clean up duties.

Well, only my son and grandson and I made it to the shooting match. We spent 4 to 5 hours out in the pasture with a large plywood target with multiple splash targets on it.

Shooting my 357 steel carbine, I was pleased. I had a nice 4 1/2 inch group at 100 yards. And follow that up with a 200 yard attempt. Got on target, about 3 feet down from point of aim. That was good for a laugh. Those three stacked targets? I aimed for the top one. Those two impacts on the bottom were my hits.

My grandson, who is entering the Marines next summer, did very well. Shooting a bolt action 243 he did OK at 100 yards. However at 200 yards, he was excellent. Four consecutive rounds in a 3 inch bull at one point.

We followed that up with some pistol shooting. None of us were that good but OK. And then the AR came out. Ben, grandson, really liked that part. I should have stopped after my first pistol round. I nailed the X in the Center of a silhouette target. After that, it went downhill.

We then backed up to a 500 yard range. Ben fired 6 to 10 rounds and Matt another three or four. I even tried a couple rounds. One of mine actually hit the target. Ben got six rounds on target and Matt two.

It was a beautiful day for shooting, sunshine and mild winds. And a great time to spend with the boys.

Thanks for sharing your day with us, Cofisher. Glad you guys had such a great time together; there isn't much more to ask for on a Thanksgiving Shootout than that.

Seems like you all had fun! Good for you. If God is willing, I will do some shooting this weekend.

Fun to read report. Thanks. Looks liked you mixed it up pretty good with all those types of guns and those distances.

Any time with family is quality time and to get to shoot on top of it will just make the memories for the future. Looks like u had fun.
