any trip or other plans for Halloween, Oct 31st .. .. we would love to be camped at Thousand Trails Chesapeake Campground, over the years we have come to really enjoy their celebrations .... however, my knee replacement and other family obligations have made it a no-go this year .... our family does plan to gather at our youngest son's home .... it is located in a large subdivision that traditionally goes all out for Halloween .... my wife and I will sit in the driveway with our Campfire-In-A-Can blazing away, giving out candy .... our kits will take their kids trick-or-treating .... that neighborhood has a strong family atmosphere that we enjoy

I will be staying home and handing out candy. I decorate so have lots of takers.

historically at our home, the only kids we get are our grandchildren .... hence, the reason we go over to one of our son's place

We can wear costumes for contest at work. I'm mulling the idea over.

We don't get too many kids.

We live on a ridgeline, in the middle of nearly fifteen acres. Out where we live, the homes are very rural. Parents usually take the kids to one of the sponsored parties, (firehouse, this church basement, or that one,) to get their Halloween goodies. The other favorite choice is into one subdivision or other to trick or treat door to door with friends who live there.

We do little of nothing different for Halloween night, other than be a little watchful for teen pranksters who have been AT the spirits rather than portraying them.

For some reason, nobody comes down my driveway; not a very friendly town, I guess...........

WE get zero kids at our place, too far off the beaten track. Chances are I'll be a cowboy this year again...

My biggest, most important plan for Halloween this year? Pick up Miss T at the airport around 6pm. She is flying home from OK. She will have been visiting the middle daughter for 12 days. It has been very quiet at home this last ten days.

Yeah, my place isn't much more inviting than above so never had a single kid in 25 years..............

Dead end road, rural, no sidewalks or street lamps, never have had a single trick or treater in over 30 years. Was talking to a friend with school age kids and they pretty much limit their kids trick or treating to before dark, school and business locales. When I was a kid back in the 60's we were out until way after dark, came home with huge bags of candy. Some people even gave out homemade stuff back then and it was no big deal, just wasn't our favorite treats.

I don't get 20 kid at my house and I live in the city .

I may dress up as an old man and go trick or treating. I've lived in the same house for 29 years and know all the neighbors.

I live in a figure eight neighborhood (with one way in) of about a fifty homes on half acre lots in a very small town. There are about three dozen kids living here now, but every year during the more than thirty that I've owned this house, many more than a hundred "trick or treaters" regularly show up, brought in in minivans and SUV's by adults who follow them around the neighborhood with hi-intensity flashlights and slow moving vehicles. I've even had new, very young mothers carrying their infant babies collecting their child's first Halloween treats, rowdy gangs of high schoolers without any pretense of a costume, and too many tiny disney character commuters who do not live anywhere near here for me to find any pleasure in this so-called holiday.

Yup! I've turned into a grumpy old man, but it was inevitable. The one year that my wife and I had to be away on Halloween, our house was egged and our trees were TP'd. I'll keep the lights on for about ninety minutes that night (if my prayer for heavy rain isn't answered), give away more than a hundred pieces of candy, and feel very much like I'm a hostage trapped in a tradition that has long outlived its welcome.

We live in a remote hard to find place. Haven't seen Tricker-Treeters here since we moved here about 25yrs ago. We've gone to my son's place in Idaho a few times just so as the misses can hand out candy to kiddies. Son lives in a great family oriented neighborhood. So it's kinda fun like when I was a kid.

Hey CT_Shooter, sounds like kind of a damned if you do/don't situation, sorry to hear.

I think, sorry to say, that Halloween is yet another holiday that has lost it's meaning and spirit. How can you dress up in a costume w/o appropriating someones ethnicity/culture, etc?

Better to just stay home and shoot empty cans; get in less trouble that way................LOL

those who camp will understand the atmosphere of most family campgrounds .... to my way of thinking its a throwback to a much simpler time .... from what we've seen Trick-or-Treating at Chesapeake still involves families walking together .... literally a "good time is had by all" .... we get back home a couple of days before Halloween .... our whole family will collect at our youngest son's home .... my wife and I will hand out candy at his place while the rest of the family walks through his very large neighborhood taking the kids trick-or-treating .... I'm happy to say that for us, it remains fun, family holiday
