We see deer all the time around the farm... but not usually this regal. Mostly button bucks and the groups of does, fawns now and again. Today, I had to yell at Tina to grab her phone and see if she could get some pics. This fella strolled thru like he owned the place. Watching an afternoon movie and glanced out at the fruit trees in the back yard, there he was, nibbling on the young grass around the base of the landscaping. By the time Miss T was on point, he had moved over by the River Birch. She shot several backyard pics and then he casually moved along and turned left and headed around the side of the house toward the front. Miss T made her move to the front and opened the door, just in time to set up to catch him come around the side of the house. Still just out for an afternoon walk. I apologize for the pic quality, shot thru the screens so as not to frighten him. The pics don't do him justice. Big fella. Very healthy, dark coat and fat. No problem, just checking the place out. Nibbling here, nibbling there. "I don't believe it!" she said. I think he is coming up on the deck. She opened the storm door and blew like a buck. He just shook his head and looked at her, and slowly turned away and went back to nibbling. She blew again, and he didn't even look up. She made a loud popping sound, and the deer looked over his shoulder as if to say, "Really?" But, he didn't run. He slowly walked along toward the boathouses, taking a nibble here and there, still casual... still regal. He faded into the woods. Just before he disappeared, she said he looked over his shoulder again... "Really?"

Ang and I were out for a walk in our woods a couple of weeks ago and ran across this little buck on one of the trails. He wasn't very big (probably one of last year's batch...had about 6-8" spikes), but he was full of attitude! He did not want to let us pass...kept snorting and stamping his front legs at me while my wife hid behind me, taking pictures. It ended up being a 5-10 minute stand-off before he turned around and disappeared into the trees.

Too bad you didn’t have a .44 Carbine with you that day!

I had two white tail does bust me while turkey hunting last week and they were wheezing like I’ve never heard before! Lucky for them I only had my turkey gun with #4 in it! Does are open until oct 31 here.

The hunt's not on here, yet. We have a bow season first, then shotgun. No rifle hunt here. I did have one of my .22mag CZs in my hand the whole time, but I'm not the hunter in the family...she is. Speaking of the .44, thanks again. I will do a full tear-down/cleaning/sight-in and report once I'm done with the one I have apart now.

Wow, no rifle hunt at all? I get that they may want to limit the harvest numbers, but I’m all for the most humane/quickest/cleanest kill possible. Which for most people, involves a rifle.

It is a county level decision, not Ontario...20 mins North into the next county, and they have a rifle hunt. I think it has to do with our land mass and people population more than the deer numbers...we're actually overstocked on those. Prince Edward County is essentially an island.

I live on a golf course in South Texas. We have a heard of deer that come out ever evening. For the past few days an 8-point buck has come out with them. The little guys challenge him (6" spikes) and he plays with them. The fawns are just turning from their spotted coats and they are still full of energy. They put on a show every evening and I enjoy watching.
