Besides the fact that it's perfectly legal here in MS, I carry with one in the pipe, safety off for the reasons shown in this video compilation of security cam footage which explains it much better than I can. I found this video purely by accident, and thought it worth consideration and discussion. And let's leave wheel guns out of the conversation, since most people carry semi-auto's these days and revolvers are a whole different discussion.

I did look thru about years worth of posts on the subject of carry, but didn't see anything that discussed this issue.

Smith and Wesson Shield 45 acp its not empty. If it was it wouldnt be any good.

That's why I like a double action/single action without a safety. Both my Berettas are set up with G-levers, de-cocker only. No safety to worry about but the first trigger pull is heavy enough and a long enough travel that you're not as likely to have a accidental discharge. Never felt comfortable carrying a striker fired pistol with one in the pipe and no safety.

I can understand that. I was uncertain about striker fired pistols for a very long time, but I've mostly gotten over that, and have been carrying a sr9e for the past 3 or 4 years. It does have a 1911 style manual safety, but the only time it's on is when reholstering. Call it a half-way house. Once fully holstered that safety goes to Condition 0. I feel perfectly comfortable with it in that condition in a quality holster, but it did take some time to get there.

It was always standard practice (for me) in South Africa to carry with one in the spout and the safety off. It was very rare to have the time to rack and load.

Winter Carry, SIG P220 45, Double Action 45, fully loaded with two spare mags. Summer here, 100 degree weather, either the snubby scandium 357, or the mini Glock nine, fully loaded. I am confident in the three safeties.

I have always cautioned against an empty chamber when teaching my classes, and if the students said they weren't comfortable with a round in the chamber, I would tell them there were three issues we could address.
1. Not enough practice /training
2. Wrong gun for them
3. Wrong holster to instill confidence

Usually, addressing one or more of those issues solved that problem.

1911 condition 1 all the time-it's the only sane method for me.

With my love for revolvers that’s not a concern.

I carry the Springfield XDE .45 ACP quite often and it's one in the chamber,hammer down and ready to pull trigger.

Some nice leather & iron y'all are showin' off here . Down here we call 'em BBQ guns, cause that's when the gals are cookin' a feral pig and makin' other goodies, while the fellas are out back showin' off their best rigs and their shootin' skills and trying out the other guys guns. These are usually all day affairs starting about 0900 till sundown.

Full time employment in wilderness or a trap line. But still can't carry anywhere else.

As I stated earlier, my primary carry guns are the Sig P220, the Baby Glock (or the Glock 23 40 cal) or the Smith M&P Model 340 357 Snubby (The Beast! ). However, I do have my own Bar-B-Q gun for dress Occassions... My Kimber Tactical Ultra II. (A Gift from the Ms. after a major surgery.) It was supposed to be an Off Duty gun, but since I was carrying a Glock on duty I stuck with one of the Glocks for Off Duty as well. She understood that concept and wasn't offended.

The Sig P220, we still get along after nearly 30 years The 340 is a Beast, but the new grips tame it, just a bit. Before the grips,
Your hand and wrist would file an OSHA complaint after a couple rounds of full house .357 rounds.
Now... they just cry like babies. My Bar-B-Q gun is a good lookin thing... Purty. She shoots too, not just a looker. 65 rounds on the initial test runs.
Seven to Fifteen yards, in two and three shot strings from the leather.
(This was WAY back when I was still competing and shooting regular.
Don't claim to still shoot this well. The Kimber probably still does. Dressed for an outing in Galco.
