Are there many rodeo fans here (or perhaps even some former competitors)? I'll make my first appearance at the Prescott Frontier Days event this evening. It's a big one – runs for 8 days and bills itself as the oldest in the world (since 1888), although there's one in Montana that disputes that. I'm hoping it'll be on par with (or better than) the Red Bluff Roundup, which was my "home" rodeo for the last 25 years in California. I'm confident it will be.

I've always lived in a place that had a big annual rodeo and have always been a fan. I covered lots of them in my newspaper days and relished the opportunity. I'd plant myself near the chutes so I could look at the cowboys' faces and hear what they were saying as they mounted up for the rough stock events, and also see how nasty the animals were acting. The more rank they are, the better it is for the cowboys because half the score is on the animal. It's really intense!

I bought seats for tonight as close to the chutes as I could get – hopefully it's close enough. In any case, I'm greatly looking forward to it!

I don't care for the new helmets, though I can 100% understand the reasoning..............

Son rides the occasional event here in Aus, bulls and saddle bronc.
Know a few that have been ridding for years and they all have had some fairly serious injuries.

I rodeo'd for a bunch of years....team roped. Heeler. Rodeo's are a good time. This Friday starts the Calgary Stampede for 10 days. My wife has oil paintings in the Western Showcase again for sale. We will be at a preview of the western art show on Wednesday night this week. Just dropped off her work today at the Stampede grounds. Enjoy the rodeo.

I have a Rodeo just a few miles down the road from me. It's the only one around for many miles. Draws a hell of a crowd during the summer.

enjoy the rodeo .... we attended the one in Estelline, SD a few weeks ago where our 8 and 5 year old granddaughters who took 3rd and 4th place in the Mutton Bustin' event ... 15 kids participated and our granddaughters were the highest finishing girls .... its not a major professional event but it is rated as the best amateur rodeo in its circuit

The main street stampede was rather anti-climatic. Guess somebody complained about safety last year. So this year they walked about 20 head or so.
Also did not make it to the rodeo. Had my mom and (3rd) step-dad with us. The weather was too hot for them.

Used to rope a little hitting the smaller sanctioned events in our country. Had lot of buddies who roped and several who rode roughstock. Was sure a fun time. We have the Rodeo of the Ozarks here the weekend before the 4th of July. Billed to be in the top 5 largest outdoor rodeos in the US. We always try to make it with the kids even though it usually feels like it's 110 degrees. Huge crowds though. We really enjoy the several smaller rodeos in our area. Good competition and stock too without the big crowds.
