where do you all acquire your firearms and ammo ??

in the semi sticks where we are we have a cpl real good local shops, family ran small places that if you go in a cpl times they call you by name. bass pro in tulsa "1 hour" and bass pro & cabels in okc also about a hour. there is a academy sports about 20 miles, the 2 shops are about 30 min as well. and then there is always online.

any way and sorry i ramble, i have found that the last 4-5 firearm purchases i have made from my local shops have been on average 50-75 higher than online or big box. " and with online you have a 25 doller xfer fee. Ammo cost for like cci 22lr mini max 100 round box or hornandy 22mag vmax, academy and wally world is maybe 1.00 to a 1.50 a box cheaper.

i have bought ammo at both wally and academy and online and its been somewhat cheaper but never a huge savings. but then i always double think myself and rationalize that the extra it cost to support the local shops is counter productive because if we lose the local shops we will be stuck with big box and online, and im sure somewhere in the bb store there is a actual person that knows the product they sell i haven't met them yet.

i have to admit im lucky that i have a cpl local shops that are knowledgeable, friendly, and just all around good ole boys that have hunted and shot their whole lives as well,

i do see the reasoning of hey if i save 50 buck then thats 50 bucks for practice ammo.

but as a individual where do we draw the line and say you know if we dont support the the small lgs then we only have ourselves to blame when BB and online are our only options.

and no i dont own or work in a gun shop, but im lucky enough the call the guys i deal with friends, and maybe thats the difference that alot of folks dont have.

everyone here has the appreciation of the Henry rifle, and the small company that makes a quality product and has exemplary customer service shouldnt we carry that on to other parts of shooting and life ??


ok sorry to ramble and ill hide the soapbox awhile, im currently on short term disability with back trouble and have way to much time on my hands

so chime in whats it like in other parts of the country,

We buy all our guns , locally, and ammo, too. When our local shops don't have either, in stock, we have them order for us. These people are our friends. We know every one of them on a first name basis. They've never let us, down, and have bent over backwards to go the extra mile for us. We know how very important it is to have jobs in small rural communities. For us, paying a little more to support our local community is money well spent. We get it back in other ways. I understand that everyone's situation is a bit different, but that's the way it is for us.

thats what we do NCG, now they dont keep alot of stock so we use bass pro, cabels or the wanmakers show when i want to put my hands on one but then i go have my local guys order it. and it usually doesnt take them long to get it in.

a good example of these guys, the other day i was bsing wit the guys and a gent walked in with a older 22lr semi and was upset because it would not feed correctly, the owner and i looked the rifle and mag over and they looked good she had been taken real good care of over the years, he explained he bought it new in the early 60's, was his truck gun. but it had started jamming every other shot, so the more we talked to him we figured out he was shooting the cheapest 22lr wally world sold. the owner reached back handed him a bix of cci mini's, the shop has a small range right behind, he took the gent down to the range and had the gent fire 3 mags full no jams. the gent was happy as heck, we explained the cheap ammo is not the best and the store owner gave him the rest of the box no charge.

happy customers come back. i just dont see that happening at a bb place

** 3rd highest (59%) gun ownership by county in the U.S.A...although it's probably actually the highest, "cuz nobody around here registers nuthin'!

since the '70's I've purchased all of our firearms from the same local dealer .... he doesn't stock reloading components so we have to buy them elsewhere .... the majority of our Nosler Bullets come from Shooter's Pro Shop ===> http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-p ... llets.html .... casings from Starline ===> https://www.starlinebrass.com/ .... powder and primers from Cabela's

There is a gun club in Loveland I have bought a bunch of guns from. They carry powder and primers also. But bullets for reloading I buy online along with 22 ammo. I have also bought quite a few guns off of gunbroker.

There is a gun store about two miles away but they are high priced and rude and I only go there a few times a decade. Other gun stores are within ten miles but I don't care for them. Then there is my main gun store about twenty miles away. He always has the cheapest prices and I've known him for about twenty years. I've gone shooting with him, fishing and have even been to his house a few times. The only drawback is he can't get the newest and latest firearms and still be the lowest in town. I had to wait two years for my Long Ranger but he was $200 cheaper than even the big boxes.

He is also only about two miles from the range.

Sir Henry: that kinda why i consider myself very lucky, like a few other we have some lgs's that still care. there are a cpl lgs in okc i wont go back because of attitude maybe its a metro thing, it nice to deal with a business of any kind that understands the all mighty dollar isint the only thing that matters

I think the low priced lgs is making just as much money as anyone else. It is a one-man shop and whenever I go in there are two or three people doing paperwork. He sits at his computer calling them in, handing out firearms for people to look at and in general is very busy. Half the people in the shop at any given time I know by name and if I don't know their name I've at least seen them a dozen times. He doesn't have to worry about theft because he knows us all by name.

Used firearms are a different story and I think that is where he makes his money. There are few great deals but they are all priced fair to both the buyer and seller.

There is another pawn shop nearby that has one of the biggest inventories in the state. They have about ten employees and at any one time four to six will be working. If I am in the market for a used firearm that is the place to go. Both have their own nitch in the market.
