After watching games from the opening rounds of the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball "March Madness," I thought I'd post some comments. Last night, my alma mater, Kansas University, moved into the Sweet Sixteen. But when looking for this year's Henry thread, I found the last NCAA post was from the 2017 tourney! So if there are any NCAA basketball fans around, here is a starting thread for the 2018 "March Madness."

Like I said, KU moved forward. But in glancing through some of the highlight tourney reports this morning, I found a really cool video about the team chaplain from Loyola, who has been involved with the university for over a half-a-century. Loyola men's team won also this weekend, but this is a kind of a fun and "good news" report about this 98-year-old loyal Loyola lady. Virginia's first round lost to a 16 seed has to have almost universally killed most everyone's brackets

I wondered about that, too.....whether or not the brackets were "universally-killed" or not. Seems to be maybe a statistics/probability math problem ---- my very worst h.s. subject!

Does anyone know the answer

Duke looked good last night .... with Virginia out of the picture, Duke's chances have gone way up .... Duke's Coach K has become the winningest coach in Division 1 history

Some good basketball playing today. UMBC played pretty well against K-State, but are now heading home.
The big news for me (since Roy Williams was the former KU Jayhawk's coach and was in nearby Lawrence, KS for years when I lived there), was the Aggies taking out North Carolina....and wow, really taking them down. That was a game to watch.

The person who coined the name "March Madness" was spot on!

I'm following Gonzaga. I lived in Spokane for a few years and have been following them for decades.

I'm a University of Kentucky fan , but my daughter lived in Spokane for a few years. On one visit she took us by the campus . I usually root for them if they aren't playing Ky. teams. I can 't believe the teams that lost in the South bracket. We were in line to have to play several top teams that are now sitting at home. Crazy year indeed.

NO.

Watched the two South region games tonight. What surprising results! A 9-seed, K-State and an 11-seed, Loyola-IL are going to the Elite 8 sending Kentucky and TN homeward. I almost think 2018 is the "year of the upsets."

It was cool to watch all the sports reporters excitedly interviewing Sister Jean after the Loyola win. That small school is having a lot of fun during this March Madness, and their 98-year-old chaplain is right in the middle of everything!!

Onward. My alma mater, the number one seed Kansas Jayhawks, is playing Clemsen Thursday evening. Hope we wave the wheat!

Florida State looked good last night .... we live in ACC country and are pulling for our three remaining teams

Really enjoyed the Loyola and K State games yesterday. Looking forward to the matchup on Saturday. I would think K State has the edge.

Since Kentucky went down last night, I guess I will climb aboard the Loyola bandwagon.

KU Jayhawks has the wheat waving, and Clemson is traveling home after their 80-76 loss tonight. Both teams had serious problems with fouls in the game, and both teams had guys foul out also. Hard-fought battle.

OK, on to the Elite Eight for KU! They are slotted to play the winner of the Syracuse (#11) vs. Duke (#2) game yet tonight. Who do you Folk think will overcome in that matchup?

Will be up a little later tonight watching more hoops; but that's okay. This basketball "madness" only happens once/year.

Syracuse (#11) vs. Duke (#2) .... 2 ACC teams that know each other well .... we have to pull for the Blue Devils

Half time for Syracuse & Duke. W/in the last 2-3 minutes Duke opened up their largest lead of the 1st half, and they are up 34-27. Mike Krzyzewski commented at 1/2-time interview that Syracuse was tough to play.

I'm pulling for Syracuse in this game, and not because the lower seed would play KU in the Elite Eight. I have liked the coaching over the years by Jim Boeheim, and his coaching record is pretty impressive. What I really like about Syracuse is their zone defense. They handle that consistently very well, and it's hard to beat it.

Looking forward to second half.

Wow, the pressure at the free throw line as games wind down. Fun to watch good ball playing.

Small Loyola sent K-State home tonight with their 78-62 win. K-State's coach said they were tough to play against.

So Loyola and Sister Jean now head to the Final Four. What fun and surprising "madness" this season.
The end of it all might just be something to see!

Sister Jean has become one of my favorite personalities .... the players all treat her with the utmost respect and seem to really care about her
