Meat Order...

This is how we order our meat... we rarely buy from grocery stores or the big boxes like Sam's or Costco...
Miss Tina has known our Butcher since she was a teen... and we just call in an order for Meat that will last us three to six months. By agreement, he prepares the meats in bulk form, saving HIM time and money and he passes that on to us. (HE is tired of cutting a dozen pork chops for some of the customers and packaging each pork chop in an individual tray, individually wrapped. He does it, with a smile, but he charges extra for the tray and the time.)

We order in bulk and we don't have to order meat for four months or so. Not only that, but he lives just passed us in our area, so he calls and let's us know when the order is ready, the total, and drops the order off at the end of the day on his way home. Could you ask for better service? We also get two hamburgers... One for general use, and custom grind, with steak tips and roast offcuts ground in for Burgers. :o It is SO good you wouldn't believe it.

Tina spends an hour or so packaging the meats the way we want them. Four ribs to a package. Two chops. Cuts the roasts into halves or thirds before packaging them. Splits the bulk packs of Beef Tips/Stew Beef into one pound packages. If we cook just what we need, we are less likely to over eat. Quality meat at a great price and we get what we want and know the quality is there.

Homemade sausage, bacon, best of the best. ;)
We make it last and don't get greedy just because the freezer is full.
:P

we do much the same with steaks .... we spend the summer in my wife's home town in South Dakota .... the fellow who runs the only grocery store in town is a top class butcher .... we place an order when we get there, he orders, ages, carve and individually vacuum seals steaks .... several of our friends place orders and we bring them back .... last summer we brought back a bit of $2,800 worth

I don't have a local butcher shop. I go to Denver to get mine. We buy Red Bird Chicken because it taste like chicken not chicken on steroids like you get in the big chain stores. Not much beef is at our house because I as well as the wife prefer Buffalo. The meat shop also has buffalo bacon and of course pork bacon. There bacon is by far better than any at the grocery store. Its a ways to go but her daughter lives in Denver so we make it work when we go to see her.

A few years ago, we lucked into an Amish local farmer. He showed us his farm. Mary had not grown up in the country and wanted to see it. I grew up in the country and I was impressed. He managed his farm VERY well. We bought a whole cow and I picked it up at the Amish butcher six miles down the road. Packaged just how we selected. Best meat we could have ever thought of.
