Winter Solstice
finally, the days are going to start getting longer once again ..
.. Winter officially begins with the Winter Solstice on Thursday, December 21, 2017. This is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere..... The winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight in the whole year.

Re: Winter Solstice
It sure felt like winter this last week when I was traveling. I just read this in the news.
https://www.yahoo.com/gma/rain-snow-mov ... ories.htmlA winter storm is currently moving across the country from the West Coast to the East Coast. So far this storm system has brought up to 40 inches of snow to parts of Montana.

Re: Winter Solstice
Our high on Christmas day is expected to stay below zero. Not unusual for us, up here, but it is a reminder that we really have very long winters in the north woods.

Re: Winter Solstice
We seldom ever get that cold even on Mount Rainier. The winds coming from the Pacific Ocean even at 14,410 feet don't get that cold. By the time the winds hit the central part of Washington State it does get that cold but it is mainly because the wind is coming from the north.

days will start getting longer
Our days will starting getting longer after today. I know winter will still be long and cold but spring will be here before we know it. I look forward to spring and the trees getting leaves back on them and the grass getting green again. I also look forward to the drag races starting back up again. My wife and I really enjoyed the races last year and tried to make it to as many as we could. We enjoy the pro-stick cars. They are fun to watch with the manual trans. Here is a Mopar friend of mine with his Dodge Daytona with a Mopar small block stroker engine that is usually the quickest in the class.

Longer days = more shooting time!
After a summer of fires I'm ok with winter.

Strange as it may be, it gets lighter later starting at Dec 13th, even though the shortest day is Dec 21st. Daylight is/was always important to me in my work, squeezing every bit of daylight I could out of a day, lol.

I never heard of "Pro-Stick" but it sounds like my kind of Racing. Everything that I own, that is just mine for me has a Clutch. I used to race 1/8 Mile years ago. Is that 1/8 Mile in the video?bandit1250 wrote:I also look forward to the drag races starting back up again. Pro-stick is a class started by a guy in the Hagerstown, Md. area and has gone from about 12 cars at first to about 150 cars in the class now. They travel to quite a few tracks in Md., Pa., and Va. and draw a lot of fans. The video is a quarter mile run but they do run some eighth mile events also. The Dodge Daytona would run in the upper 4.90's in the eighth at about 140 mph. There is a lot on you tube with the pro-stick class cars.Cowboy Gun Fan wrote:I never heard of "Pro-Stick" but it sounds like my kind of Racing.
