All right, everybody "fess up". How many have you done the Chuck Conner thing that he does to open the show with? I'll be the first. I tried the last time I was on the range. Nobody but me and the surveillance cameras on the range so put the bbb.357 on my hip and let loose with five shots of .38's. No where as fast as Mr. Conner and the results on the Target? All misses except one in the head. Target was at 10 yards. All high. Tried 3 more, all center mass. "Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play"

As I was leaving the owner of the store asked if I hit the target at all. Watching on the camera. Kinda embarrassed. I asked if anybody else does that. He said only guys with levers.

So..."fess up"

Nope. Never seriously crossed my mind to try it. If the guys at the range saw me doing that on the video, they would be out there in a hurry with a stern warning, or telling me to pack it up and leave.

Haven't fanned my single action either.
I do sometimes shoot my pistols rapid fire in practice, but they are still center mass hits. Years of practice. Lol.

Not that doing the Rifleman thing if you want to, and it's safe where you do it, is wrong...
Doing the John Wayne Spin... with an Empty Rifle...
I haven't tried that one either....
But I'm not gonna look down on those who do...

I've never been tempted to try it, either with my rifles or by fanning my revolvers. But, I watch the Rifleman program quite a bit. I have 128 episodes on my DVR. I don't think it's likely that anyone can "shoot from the hip" with any consistent accuracy. As for the speed, well... that rifle was "tricked out" for the opening title sequence.

The opening theme at the beginning of each episode depicted McCain walking down the street of a town while rapid-firing his Winchester 44-40 1892 model rifle that had been modified at the trigger and lever. Yeah...No. I can’t stand the idea of messing up my rifle. But, it does look cool.

I also do not do wheelies with my motorcycle. Cannot stand the idea of crashing.

never thought about it .... .... now you've got me thinking about it .... .... how about with a 45-70 .. .. nope, that thought will not be back .... the only rapid fire I can remember has been with a Remington Model 12 22 pump or with a semi automatic 22 rifle with a 25 shot clip

I've done it a hundred times or more. With a bit of practice I bet you be surprised at how accurate you can get and as fast too. In the opening pilot show Chuck worked the trigger himself but in the TV series he had the set screw.

I love the show, and watch it often but no I have not tried that with my 1860....I'm more Barney Fife than Lucas McCain. It wouldn't go well....

Been known to cycle and shoot a tube full pretty quick but never the 'Rifleman' action!
